Fake Reko lives AU explanation
Romeo is the fake Reko doll we see in chapter 2. Due to the AI not being updated he retains the personality of Reko back in her Samurai Yaiba days. After being successfully pushed off the edge of the pit in the Arbitration room by Nao Egokoro, he miraculously clung to the edge and dragged himself out.
He still attempts to take the life of the real Reko, only to be held back and ultimately fail, though he refuses to part with the knife he made the attempt with. Due to intervention from Gashu, he is kept around as an additional candidate, citing how his strong will to survive as “fascinating.” Though most of the other participants are fully convinced that he is the fake and hold a strong resentment toward him for this, he still regards himself as the one and only Reko.
He is eventually convinced to take up an alternative moniker (Romeo, a reference to an early Samurai Yaiba song) to avoid the two getting mixed up again; he is not happy about this development. During this they alter their appearance, losing the jacket and getting her hair cut shorter (more like how it was during her Yaiba days I think...)
It seems the only one to see him as the real Reko is Alice, though in reality it’s Alice just wanting to have a sister who can stand to talk to him- even if she isn’t particularly polite… it’s still the same old Reko he knew, right?
