Faking It Season 2b Predictions/Spoilers/Speculation Part II - Karmy Edition
Part I
I’ve made a couple of predictions regarding 2b a while back, some of which have turned out to be true, based on the new trailer, apparently (yay). As such, with the surprising amount of new promos coming up lately, I decided to focus a little on my favourite pairing and what I think this season has in store for them.
It is pretty obvious that there will be some tension between them after the secret got out, namely during the first few episodes. It is also pretty obvious that, knowing Karma, she will not address the dream in 2x10 or what it meant AT ALL, denying the existence of it even to herself. Denial is her defense, to put is simply, and this will show even more than before as the season progresses.
Which is why she will be seen acting out - we already know this (drunk Karma, pining after Liam, hooking up with other guys and so on and so forth). At first I thought the writers were taking it a bit too far, but her acting that way is justifiable after all. Let’s cut her some slack because, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, she is not a slut - she’s confused as hell, still hurt, still feeling betrayed, and most importantly - lacking a sense of identity. She lost her prince charming fantasy which she’s been dreaming of since she was 6. Of course she feels like she doesn’t know who she is anymore and in some twisted way, she is discovering that.
Moving on - it’s apparent that along the way, they will get their friendship back. That’s a given. That was never out of the question - the showrunner confirmed it, so we’re in the clear. It’s romantic Karmy we want to know more about, specifically these two moments:
1) Karma and Amy faking it again.
2) The party at Amy’s house.
Many people have jumped down Karma’s throat already for that uncomfortable smile she had after kissing Amy in that pool, believing Karma was a bitch (no pun intended) for taking advantage of her best friend.
But I think it’s safe to assume that, this time, Karma didn’t kiss Amy to make Liam jealous. First up - she knows Amy’s been in love with her for ten years now, and she wouldn’t be that insensitive, since by the time this episode rolls around, they’re best friends again. Second - she kissed Amy before even noticing Liam was there. Karma had that nervous, just-got-caught-up-in-the-act smile. She didn’t regret what she did, because this time she did it on her own free will. To me, she seemed like a deer caught in the headlights, surprised by her own actions and a bit embarrased.
Amy, however, won’t see it that way because she was taken completely by storm. She barely broke the hug when Karma kissed her. Which is why she only saw Liam afterwards and will assume that Karma used her, most likely leading to her being heartbroken and upset - again. I swear, Carter should give this poor gay baby a break from time to time.
But it’s what happens afterwards that I think most of us are concerned about, specifically this line: “What if we can’t come back from this, what if this is the beginning of the end?”
This line will happen in the finale, like I suspected, along with Amy telling Reagan she’s still in love with Karma.
I’ll take a stab at this and say that it won’t be Amy confessing her feelings for Karma this time. I think Amy will confront Karma about the reasons why she kissed her and this time Karma will not be convincing enough when denying the truth. Their conversation might go down like this, or at least somewhere along these lines:
Amy: Was that really neccessary? There are other ways to make Liam jealous, if you wanted that so badly.
Karma: *after a long pause* That’s not what it was about, Amy.
Amy: Then what was it, Karma?
Karma: *speechless*
I think Karma will not directly confess any feelings for Amy but her reactions will give it all away like it happened in 1x08 at the wedding for her best friend. This time Amy will be the one to say she can tell when she’s lying, leading to Karma having no choice but to indirectly confirm her suspicions by expressing her genuine fear of losing her - “What if we can’t come back from this, what if this is the beginning of the end?”
I believe we’ll be witnessing a long overdue role reversal, with Amy walking away because she genuinely believes Karma is playing her again.
Rita Volk said that Amy will always love Karma but is not as desperate for it to happen. Which is why I believe that, no matter how much Amy loves Karma, she will not dive into this if she suspects uncertainty on her part. This will be the cliffhanger of the finale - Amy walking away. This will be her character development, her taking a stand - the fact that she’s strong enough to acknowledge her feelings but not act on them because the timing is wrong, and also because she will have a hard time believing Karma is actually in love with her too and not confused or rebounding after Liam.
I believe it will be Karma’s time to fight for her, to prove herself or try to win her back this time. This is the story they might be preparing for - the question is if Karma is genuinely ready to do so.
These are some of my thoughts. Let me know what you think. :)
Faking It Season 2b Predictions/Spoilers/Speculation
We’re still in gruesome hiatus and it fucking hurts, Faking It fandom. Like seriously, MTV. Almost a whole year for 10 more episodes of 20 minutes each? That’s textbook torture for the fans. However, it hurts less than a few months ago so, in honor of the show’s returning date getting closer, I decided to come up with a couple of predictions. Chances are they are wrong/far from the truth, but I thought I’d still give it a try for fun. I’ve seen a lot of people lose their shit over the trailer so far during these last couple of months, but I think we shouldn’t take it that seriously or freak out just yet.
Without further ado, here it goes - my take on 2b (predictions, speculations and all that goodness). WARNING: Spoilers ahead (for those who don’t want to be spoiled, just stop reading, before you start cursing me haha).
1) Karma will try to dismiss the dream she had and still be in denial about her feelings for most of the second half of the season, possibly until the finale.
What do we know about Karma as a character and in light of the events so far? Well, after the 2a mid-season finale we can safely assume that she’s definitely confused (the dream), humiliated (her parents got busted in front of the entire school and for someone who craves popularity, that’s a huge strike to her self-esteem), equally ashamed and frightened to bits (she doesn’t want to face the fact that her dream of both her and Amy in a totally different light is a complete game changer, just like Amy confessed that she didn’t want to have those feelings either at first, which she called “scary” but, at the same time, exciting). I doubt Karma will find any of it exciting and will be putting a lot of resistance against herself, given the fact that her sense of self is changing. Why is that?
Because her prince charming fantasy died and she’s built herself as the damsel-in-distress who gets saved by the prince her entire life. But despite losing that, she is still going to cling to that image because, without it, she has no self-identity, nothing to define her or shield her. It is equally her dream, and her cover.
Karma has two basic ways of coping – denial (”If I don’t deal with this and ignore it long enough, it will go away”) and sleeping with Liam or any other boy to enforce her heterosexuality (”I’m into guys so I can’t be into Amy too”). Cough someone tell her about bisexuality already cough.
Karma’s soul-searching journey will be a lot more destructive than Amy’s back in season 1. Which is why she is seen losing her shit and acting crazy - getting drunk, fooling around with anyone of the male population within her reach. But, after a more careful analysis, I realized that it’s intended that way and it’s actually understandable given the hard place she finds herself in.
I feel that Amy’s jail scene speech completely changed my view on Karma. If before, all the way through season 1 and even in the first half of season 2, I was quick to judge her like other people in the fandom (shame on me), now I understand her and what the writers intend to do (shout-out to you-had-me-at-whoa for helping me see the light). Because if we see Karma as the romantic who dreams of prince charming, then all of her actions so far can be explained. It’s only now that she faces reality – that loving and being loved back in the imperfect way (Princess Sarcasm) is more valuable than being in love with the idea of love (Prince Charming). And she is scared of that truth. Because with it comes the fear of losing both Amy and the identity she’s created since she was a little girl.
That’s why she will still be pining after Liam for a while, possibly get in a rivalry of sorts with Zita, the girl from Skwerkel. Afterwards, if Liam moves on, she will try to get with virtually any other guy just to keep her true feelings at bay.
If Amy freaked out back in 1x04 about “Not Faking It”, Karma’s struggle will be a lot harsher since she has no one to turn to but Amy, which isn’t a viable possibility for obvious reasons.
2) Reagan and Amy will break up, but not because of Karma.
What do we know about Reagan? She’s an out and proud lesbian who assumed back in 2x08 that Amy was too, before that pageant. However, Amy is still discovering herself. And while Reagan might be understanding about that, I believe that it will not be the only issue standing between them.
Reagan and Amy are very different – Amy is laid-back, doesn’t like socializing very much and her ideal day is spent watching Netflix and eating popcorn indoors. Reagan is a DJ, she likes to be out there and do her thing. Amy wants to go to college, Reagan is doing fine without it.
So, I think the main reason of their break-up will be the fact that they just don’t connect on a deeper emotional level. Their differences will relate to their personalities and views on life. Karma has nothing to do with either of them. If they will be able to overcome those differences in the end, only time will tell, but, to me, it seems unlikely and not because I ship Karmy, but because I don’t see them working on a long-term basis, even if Karma wasn’t in the picture.
3) Amy’s “I’m starting to have feelings for her again” will happen in the finale.
When Amy tells Reagan she’s starting to have feelings for Karma again, Reagan’s reaction is unfazed and calm, as if she had a hunch all along that Amy’s feelings for Karma never went anywhere, despite the blonde’s best efforts. It almost seems like the two have stayed friends and are comfortable enough to be honest with each other about their feelings for someone else.
4) Felix will be Amy’s “beard”, so to say.
Apparently, Hester High has a new principal who’s not very fond of gays. That ties in perfectly with Felix and Amy being seen to prom together, as well as Karma and that unknown guy. As much as I think Karma really is all over that guy for real, I think part of her avoids to go with Amy to not deal with her conflicting feelings and not arise any suspicion.
As for Amy, even if she might feel some sort of attraction, it will die down as soon as she kisses him, just like it happened with Oliver back in 1x03. So, I don’t think we should see this guy’s character as threatening in any way, shape or form.
5) Karma and Amy will be friends again, but it will take a lot of time.
I have a feeling that Karma will plot some sort of revenge on Amy, by either sleeping with Felix or hurting her somehow. She is NOT over the whole Liam thing for reasons that go beyond just her best friend sleeping with her boyfriend.
Amy destroyed the fantasy without intending to. She made Karma see that the perfect Liam Booker was human after all - he was capable of mistakes, he was flawed, he wasn’t her savior, the perfect knight in shining armour who could do no wrong. Amy erased that self-identity and certainty she used to have, and she’ll resent her for that. Chances are Karma will do something morally-reprehensible (“You’re the one to talk about secrets”) and they’ll go through a rough patch, like Rita Volk said, but in the end, their friendship will be okay.
As for something more, I believe that will be the cliffhanger of the finale, specifically these two lines:
“I’m starting to have feelings for her again.”
“What if we can’t come back from this, what if this is the beginning of the end?”
I feel like they are connected somehow.
6) Karma will kiss Amy in that pool when she’s drunk and not speak of it again/deny it/pretend she doesn’t remember.
We see Karma dancing on that table and Amy taking her down and putting her sweater on her to cover her up. Regardless of how they end up in that pool, I think Amy will apologize, something along the lines of (“This is not you, Karma, I’m sorry, I did this.”), they will hug, and then Karma leans in to kiss Amy.
As drunk as Karma is, that action is an expression of her true feelings. She doesn’t do it for Liam anymore, because he is seen just as shocked by the action as herself. No, Karma does it because she wants to, and she only gets the guts to do so if she’s drunk and her guard is down. Conveniently so, next day she can blame it on the alcohol.
But after she kisses Amy, the look on her face speaks volumes – it’s like she sobers up right then and realizes her cover is slowly wearing off. She’s struggling to hide and it’s heart-wrenching to watch.
7) Lauren and Theo will get back together, but Duke/Shane might break up.
I think Theo didn’t mean it when he said none of this was real, in regards to his relationship with Lauren. He only did it because his supervisor was there.
As for Shane/Duke, my guess is that they’ll break up once the truth comes out. To be honest, I kind of wish Duke finds out Shane outed him and for once Shane is held responsible for his actions.
In season 1, Shane was this outlet for Amy - we saw him attempting to guide her and help her through this process of self-discovery, which is why we forgave him for outing two girls he knew virtually nothing about. However, in season 2 his character steadily worsened. He has no right outing people against their will. I wish they would develop Shane more, he’s a lovable guy with good intentions. He just needs to learn when to back off.
8) Karma and Reagan will bond.
I hope Reagan figures Karma’s true feelings about Amy and helps her somehow, or at least guides her without giving away that she knows. Something that starts like “I remember being 16 too, it’s tough”. and then develops into something more, even friendship. They might bond over their mutual love for Amy, or even their dislike for her actions – Amy sleeping with Liam is something both Reagan and Karma will have an issue with.
