i am the 15th person to thank u for being so up front with your self ship and make my internal ship feel more validating and also thank u for appreciating the heck out of papyrus and not hating sans like most pap fans tend to do cause they are both wonderful and charming and complex
Itâs ok!!! Iâm just having fun, and Iâm glad that thatâs giving people the courage to have fun and be creative as well!
As far as Iâm concerned, you canât have one of the Skelebros without the other, you just canât. Yes, as individuals they are both very unique, funny and interesting characters and they do stand very strongly on their own, but to me a big part of their appeal is the love they have for each other. And yes, Papyrus is my favourite, Papyrus gives me THE BIG FEE FEES but I do love Sans a lot.
In fact, I wouldnât be doing what I am now if it wasnât for Sans.
Iâve always liked Papyrus, ever since I played the game when it came out in 2015, and although I liked Sans, (as I like p much everyone in Undertale), I would have described my feelings about him to be more... Neutral, than anything else. Heâs always been funny and interesting, but to me he was over-rated and the fandom was entirely oversaturated with him (which lets face it, it still is).
However, after Deltarune came out in November, I experienced a bit of a resurgence in interest in Undertale as a whole, after stumbling upon a story in which Sans was........ Oof. Just oof, uh...... It was actually a fell Sans, where he was big and burly and nasty and just... Wow. My experience was akin to that of the Grinch, when his heart grows ten sizes. I started reading Soriel fics, and doodling Soriel, which Iâve always shipped, and then I got into... Reader fics.
Iâve always been a writer, and itâs not unusual for me to be inspired to write something when I read something. But I wasnât going to write a Sans x Reader fic, nope.
I hit problems with money around this time and had to pick up extra shifts at work; my usual job is illustrating bespoke cake designs and taking orders over the phone, but to pay off the bit of debt I had, I took on Front of House shifts at one of our cafe-type stores, selling cakes, slices and coffee. Itâs not really my thing, I donât like customer facing, but Iâm not bad at it. However, there were occasions where things were a bit quiet and I was left to my own devices on the shop floor by myself. At which point one day I thought âHa. Wouldnât it be funny if Sans wandered in.â
I started writing my short fic Normality about a week later, in a note on my phone on the tube home, and Reader was born. A self-insert called Reader simply so that I didnât have to mark my fic as âself-insertâ for fear that people wouldnât read it. Also I thought it was funny.
And yeah. It all just kinda snowballed from there. I was swept up in Sans for a few weeks and then Papyrus stuck his head into my brain-window and said âHEY, ARENâT YOU FORGETTING SOMEONE?â And well... Here we are :I
Itâs been fun. And it continues to be fun. I love them both a lot. This city is grey and cold and lonely, and their company, even though it isnât real, makes me feel a little bit better when Iâm not doing so good.
