Styling Experience with Karen Millen
As a lovely invitation from Bloomingdale's and Karen Millen, I was offered the chance to style two outfits on two gorgeous models to give customers different ideas as to how to dress themselves with Karen Millen's collection.
I am a big fan of European designers. The Karen Millen collection I noticed pays attention to details like the quality of the materials used, the intricate accessories to the garments and what I loved best was the use of color in classic pieces. You get so used to always seeing black or muted earth tones that it's refreshing to see a designer take classic pieces like a pea coat or a simple top or dress and add bold and brazen colors to them but executed elegantly.
To give you a little background into Karen Millen...
Karen Millen is renowned for creating versatile investment pieces that are attainable luxurious and effortless glamour for women. The collection's garments have perfectly cut tailoring and on-trend leather pieces or high-octane evening wear with an assortment of cutting-edge accessories. This year marked their 30th anniversary. Karen Millen has stores in London, New York, LA, Moscow, Berlin, Sydney and Paris (all the most style-making fashionable cities). For Millen's fall collection, this is a return to contemporary glamour and sensuous structure, creating a look for the modern confident feminine. The emphasis is on rich opulent colors, sharp tailoring and contrasting textures. These pieces are statement garments that will become a part of any modern woman's closet.
Gathering the looks sounds like it might have been an all day task but once I got to the location it was a snap. I gravitated towards many garments but the deep luxurious brazen colors of sapphire blue, garnet, tangerine orange and ruby red just stuck out to me.

I recreated a classic 1950-60s look but modernized it with bold colors and prints. I love blue and the color worked so well with the model's complexion. The leopard-print cardigan worked as a quirky layered piece over the blue sapphire top. Being that the model was tall and had great long legs, the classic pencil skirt created curves and sex appeal to an otherwise modest look. To accessorize, I picked a garnet/plum satin clutch that picked up a bit of color from the cardigan and complemented the blue top. And we can't forget the shoes...I LOVE SHOES!!! And these were fun patent black leather trim with a satin print in white and hints of plum and blush, with the toes slightly exposed in a peep toe. FUN!

Another ensemble echoing from the 1950s, a sheath printed dress with an otherwise classic military peacoat with a classically adorned pair of ruby slippers. This look is chic as an updated modern take of the workwear of the corporate woman. A look that can take you from the work day to the date night. I love the modern take of the military peacoat with a shocking tangerine orange color that screams "I am not some uptight woman."
