ANIMAS LOST Day 3 of the #FallColorTour2017 we traveled off the #MillionDollarHwy and up the #AlpineLoop (Connecting #LakeCity #Ouray and #Silverton ) to the #GhostTown of #AnimasFork . The town’s first cabin was built in 1873 and by 1876 had become a bustling mining community. Growing to 30 cabins, a hotel, general store, saloon and a post office. By 1883 450 people lived in Animas Forks and 1882 a Newspaper, the Animas Forks Pioneer, began publication until 1886. At 11,200 feet the paper was the only newspaper ever published and printed at such a high Altitude in the US. Winters were harsh here, every fall most migrated to Silverton. When mining profits began to decline, investment in Animas Forks was no longer justified and became a ghost town by the 20’s. Pictured here is one of the few structures that still remain. #Fall #Autumn #Colorado #ILoveColorado #Coloradotography #GreatOutdoors #Adventures #RoamthePlanet #ExploringtheFrontier #Travel #TravelPhotography #Landscapes #LandscapePhotography #Nature #AwesomeView #igColorado #instagood #photooftheday #ourayinn #FollowMe #JamesKnox #TeamCanon @jimdenhamphoto @the_real_mayor_d @michaelm_photo @louieography @chrisnitz (at Animas Forks, Colorado)
