Flight of the Valkyrie
Bubble girl
Vesta knew she had a job to do...
After all having a mental link to the angel Murat -who constantly complained- didn’t leave her much choice to become an adventure.
Growing up she studied hard to understand magic and used one of her own feathers to help focus the arcane energy. However, she didn’t get an actual knack for it until she was gifted a band for her hair.
Soon, she learned the angel blessed her with this item so she’d be more intelligent.
He didn’t want to waste time seeing her progress.
That was fine, it got him to stop, temporarily.
Quickly she was welcomed into a group to travel across the kingdom liberating small towns from the beasts of the world.
She travelled for quiet some time with these people when they were having a particularly hard fight trying to save a town.
That’s when Murat’s voice rang clear. Sacrifice the town to win against the demon. With no other choice, Vesta complied.
Her friends didn’t agree, but it was too late. No survivors besides the party members.
After that, she lost their respect. How could one be celestial, be good and sacrifice a town? No angel would order it if her they claimed. They didn’t understand.
Several small jobs passed. Vesta wasn’t allowed to speak to towns folk. If she wanted healing she had to pay for her the potions. Insults and glares were given from her friends, but she still cared for their well being. So, she stayed.
It was a gruelling battle. And that’s when the band of intelligence flew off her head. In a rush to find her magic item she looked to the ground behind her to notice the ambush behind her party.
‘Attack the giant!’
For the first time, she ignored Murat and hurled meteors and the small enemies, but due to the attack of opportunity the giant took, she missed her aim.
Instead they were hurtled to her allies with her unable to concentrate on excluding them from the damage.
Murat wasn’t pleased.
Crackles of thunder echoed followed by lightning hit all the creatures leaving Vesta to tumble to the ground.
When Vesta awoke, the band was within her reach. Slowly sitting it up and returning it to her head she slowly saw everything, dead. Out of reflex to shield her eyes she moved her wings to the front of her face.
Cracked bones were instead in front of her instead of the glorious white once there.
Several years passed.
Vesta kept to herself collecting books and knowledge. It was peaceful, depressing. It was a life of self pity and regret as she now fully knew that it was her fault they all died.
That was when the portal opened beneath her and she began to fall towards a white ground. In fear, she began to fly down. Flapping was heard beside her as another figure, clad in heavy armour fell far faster.
That was how Vesta was introduced to Barovia.
