Red Beets and the Fallen Bladder
A vaginal prolapse or "fallen bladder" occurs when the wall between a woman’s bladder and her vagina weakens and allows the bladder to drop into her vagina. This condition is common in older women who have had children, particularly heavy children, but can also be genetic as well.
My mother had a fallen bladder for which she needed surgery. I didn't understand what exactly she was experiencing, so I turned to Google Images for my answers. Why do Google Images always show the images that constitute the 1% of any particular condition? These pictures rarely give a realistic perception of any given condition/complication, and I have no idea why I continue to turn to these pictures for answers.
At the time I was enjoying a bowl of freshly pickled red beets. As soon as I saw the images, I not only completely lost my appetite, but now whenever I try to eat pickled red beets, those images come to mind. I used to eat these vegetables all of the time, so this is a very unfortunate situation.
This root vegetable contains a variety of nutrients that can help prevent heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in the United States. They also help prevent certain types of cancer, especially colon cancer, which runs in my family. Because it runs in my family, I will have colonoscopies to look forward to every five years instead of every ten; oh the joys of a latex gloved finger protruding my anus. Hopefully, as the years pass, I will fully recover, and will once again be able to resume my love for these delicious root vegetables. My life depends on it.
PS: I was going to post a Google Image of a fallen bladder, but I figured you could do so yourself if you felt so inclined. Also, I didn't want you to think that I was posting a picture of my Mother's vagina.
