Fighting For You
Was a heartbeat supposed to run so fast? He could feel every beat as his feet pattered against the ground, his hair drenched as his blade swung upward. Blood dripped down the metal, his blue hues not even taking notice as he continued to rush himself, no mater the wounds that were trying to bring him down. Worry and a fatherly instinct that had slowly begun to develop over the years finally had caught up to him, making him go wild as fear drove him farther.
They stole what he was to protect with his life and he wasn’t going to let them hurt her anymore.
Rain pattering against the blood soaked cement, he found himself slipping through the gates, his blade being tapped with arrows before he found cover. Not staying there long, he jolted into the gates, fingers quivering as he knew the direct path to go.
Would he be too late?
Tears had begun to roll down his cheeks, eyes growing irritated by the dissolving emotion that was sweeping him over. Seconds passed as his feet slammed against palace floors, cape being the only thing that kept his true clothing from becoming soaked by the harsh rains.
Finally ending those who were in his way, he found himself at the doors that he wished he never had to enter again. The broken screaming, familiar and heart breaking to him, compelled him forward as his buster sword still lay rest in his hands.
Close your eyes, sweet child of mine This is a mere nightmare, a bad time… When you wake, all will be right… When you wake, you will be just fine.
“Kaida!” His own voice strained from emotion, he came closer to where he could hear the cries, his blue hues almost a light within the darkness as he swung the blade at the first person to had touched her in his eyesight.
Innocent eyes of forest green carried so much hurt within, the black hair that began to dye itself red was scattered in knots as she lay on an examination table. Right then and there, the man let loose of his controls and set blood dripping down the drains of the dark dungeon floor.
Their cry was his melody, his blue hues losing the look of being human before he heard something else… A wail that only spoke of the fear of a child who knew nothing of what was going on. He glanced back, blinking as he saw her struggle against the chains and holds. He watched and her glance slipped upward, her face splotched with red marks out of fear, eyes wide, puffy and full of tears because of what was around her.
That’s when he snapped back into place, placing his sword down, close, and began to work on her imprisonment. “Just a little longer, okay sweetheart? Until then, close your eyes for me.”
The last of the holds breaking with words of magic, he pulled his cloak off his back. Enfolding her into the warmth, holding her securely to his chest, he picked up his blade and pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead.
“Papa…”
He let out a small ‘shh’ and looked down to her with a smile, closing his eyes for a moment for her to mock. Opening them slowly, he only strengthened his grip, pressing her face towards his chest so she wouldn’t have to see what was to come.
Even if he wasn’t able to make it out of this so called castle alive, she would have to. Not telling her such things though, he pushed himself forward once more. The soft whines of the child he cared for so much making him only move faster, ignoring every sign of human beings. Getting towards the gates, he could hear the shouts, the screams of how to shut the only way out before he could reach it but, he continued to rush forward.
“Hold on tight, sweetheart, papa’s going to fly.” Words being soft, he could feel the aching pain of his one wing begin to wrench at his back. Gritting his teeth, rain drops slipped down his cheeks and with the thunder, a black wing shot from his shoulder blade, giving him access to the only place they’d be free: the sky.
With his feet tapping on the wooden gate as it was lifted upward, he leaped for the opening, thrusting his wing downward. Lightning flashed in front of him, his eyes glowing a moment more before they were free. Archers could do as they please, sending their arrows into the sky to hit him but they were blocked magically. Confusion drifted onto his face as he continued to work on flying, eyes slipping down to the child.
Her green eyes were covered in a soft glow, hands held together as her head rested against his chest. He kept his smile as he realized what she was pulling, kissing her cheek and landing in the forest soon after. “You don’t have to worry, you’re safe now, Kaida…”
She managed a smile then, eyes falling shut soon after as she slowly began to drift off to slumber. As he watched her fall away to a land of rest, tears began to fall from his eyes again, grin twitch and dripping into a frown as he still pushed himself towards home.
“Papa… I’m sorry…”
He hesitated at those words, his hand flinching as it reached for the doorknob. “It’s not your fault… None of this was ever your fault…” Words mumbled, he brought himself, and her, inside to where he lay he took her to his room. Slowly resting himself against the mattress, he still held her, hands protectively over her figure as his eyes slowly began to close themselves. “Good night, my little dragoness.”
