Falling Spring - No. 1 por Mark Via Flickr: Located off Highway 19 in rural Oregon County, Missouri, Falling Spring falls from out of the middle of a bluff wall into a spring-fed pond below. The spring has historically provided power for two mills, one of which still stands today. The Falling Spring area was homesteaded in 1851 by Thomas and Jane Brown of Tennessee. Today, the Thomas Brown Cabin sits across the pond from Falling Spring Mill and is over 100 years old. The small wooden mill which still stands near the spring (but is not pictured in these photos) was constructed in 1927. The overshot wheel used to turn the mill was used to grind corn, saw shingles and firewood, as well as generate electricity. The spring behind the Mill falls 20-30 feet from the face of the bluff into the mill pond. The Mill still has some of its original machinery in place. Falling Spring Mill and the surrounding land are now located on U.S. Forest Service property and is open to the public. © All rights reserved - - No Usage Allowed in Any Form Without the Written Consent of the photographer, Mark S.
