Fall is the best season for camping. It's cool enough that you can wear long sleeves, which can protect from ticks and scratches. Actually, no bugs in general. It's hot enough that you don't lose feeling in your fingers when just existing.
I remember getting wet socks in the winter when I was a Boy Scout in 7th grade. The nerves in my foot overloaded and it felt like they were hot instead of cold. Never going to go winter camping again.
And it's not too wet either. Spring has the issue of rain (and bugs), which sucks for hikes and tent camping. I have to clean the mud off tarps and clothes when that happens. Plenty of memories of scraping off shoes with an old toothbrush.
Fall has none of these issues and is beautiful. The other seasons can be, but it's harder to enjoy because of weather and bugs. Summer has the benefit of summer break, but fall happens to be the best time to skip school. Nothing matters in the first few weeks of school.
