15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?

I don’t write OCs for fanfiction, but I do write original fiction. The naming convention goes quite differently depending on the story but I tend to “save” cool names I find on real people to use when needed. I also tend to name characters after certain themes if they’re in a certain group, if they’re siblings, etc. Then I just feel the names out. If I can’t decide on a name I just call them by the letter I most associate with them as a placeholder until I figure something out.

28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?

Okay, so while I do get a lot out of writing fanfiction obviously, I’d probably caution my younger self (I’ve been fic writing for 11 years) to get into this game because you end up getting very reliant on the instant validation. Compared to original stories, which you don’t get any feedback on in the middle of the process, it’s very easy to get too used to how it works with fanfiction. When I’ve tried to limit myself from writing fanfiction so that I focus on my original stuff, oftentimes that’s lead to me not writing at all, even though I love to do so.

Fanfiction is fun, but you can also get kinda trapped in it, I guess.
