𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 y'all chapter is, woah. that's all i have to say 😀 i had a blast (and simultaneously an awful time) writing this 🫠
you don't know how it happened, what led you here to be tied to a chair and beaten up. your breathing's pained as your chest strains uncomfortably against the rough rope with each breath.
you don't know why you're here, why this mission suddenly went extremely south. there shouldn't have been a way for it to go wrong, everything had been meticulously planned and you excelled at sneaking through the surrounding alleys and the building.
though, the rough pull of a pair of strong hands tore your helmet clean off and another figure slammed the butt of their gun into the back of your head. knocking you out cold.
" well well, if it ain't the undying Courier. " an all too familiar voice calls through the echoing room. your eyes snap towards the voice, finding none other than Benny stepping through the doorway; a double barrel shotgun in hand.
you strain against the rope. " Benny. " you seethe, thick curls dangling in front of your face. " this is a dumb decision, Benny. "
he laughs, kicking the door shut. " no, baby, " he cocks the shotgun, walking closer to you. " that old man diggin' you up and bringing you back, now that was a dumb decision. " the closer he steps, the more you can see of him. his stupid checkered suit looks neat as it can, though it'll never compare to Sam's impeccably pristine suits. that, and a small radio sticks out of his breast pocket.
" what the fuck do you want from me? " you glare up at him through your hair.
Benny chuckles, kicking some dust as he exaggeratedly thinks. " let's see, " he trails off, thinking out loud. " you back in the ground would be a great start. " he turns to face you, just a few steps away. " don't look at me like that, no matter how pretty you are, you're still just in the way. " he tuts.
shouts can be heard outside the door and down the hall and by the panic, you know who's causing it. he seems to notice it too, his free hand coming down to click the radio on. " that you up there, Axe? " his eyes are on you.
" because it's you Benny, i'll make it quick and painless. but if you harm a single hair on her head, i can draw the pain out for days. " Sam's steady voice crackles through the radio.
Benny laughs before you, " big talk for a dead man. come down and face me, old timer. " he clicks the radio off, not leaving room for a response.
you hear people rushing off outside the door, shouting orders as others verbally obey. " you know he'll come to get me. alive or dead. " you swallow, your heart starting to pound at the sight of the double barrel turning your way.
Benny leans down, his face inches from yours. " oh, babycakes, why else do you think you're here? " he grins, his breath fanning across your face.
you scowl, scrunching your face as you smack your head into his, sending him back with a pained shout. " fuckin' hell-! " he swipes his fingers beneath his nose, staring wide-eyed at his bloody fingers. " you fuckin' bitch-! " he shouts, spinning on his feet. " you'll regret that. " he sneers, grabbing a fistful of your curls as he yanks your head back, the two cold barrels pressing up beneath your chin.
the door to the room slams open, and from the corner of your eyes you can just barely spot a familiar red tie. " now what'd i say, Benny? " Sam's voice echoes through the room, a dark and frightening tone to it. you feel Benny's grip on your hair flinching slightly. " not a single hair on her head is to be harmed. "
goosebumps prickle at your skin, you can't say in the months you've known Sam that you've ever seen him mad, or this terrifying. you've heard rumors of course, and you know he didn't get all his power simply with money.
but you had never seen him like this; his dark usually honey brown eyes were nearing black, a terrifyingly calm look in them. you knew from that look alone who would be walking away from this and who wouldn't.
Benny moves behind you, his fist still tangled in your hair and the barrels now press against your temple. you squirm against Benny's hold and the rough ropes, regardless of Sam's presence the feeling of a double barrel pointed against your temple still remains nerve wracking.
" you know, i can see why you're so attached to her. " Benny taunts, his eyes dragging down your hair to your figure. " she sure is a looker. " he wolf-whistles.
you watch Sam's eyes twitch at the comment and the whistle. " don't do this, Benny. " his voice is firm. " this ain't gonna end well for you if you do. "
Benny sighs, his eyes snapping to Sam's. " last time i checked, i had a double barrel pressed against your little lover's temple. i can think of at least one person who it's not gonna end well for here, Axe. and it ain't me. "
Sam's eyes flicker down to yours, his heart aching at the sight of your bruised face. his eyes return to Benny's, " what do you want? for her safely in return, you know i'll pay anything. "
Benny laughs at his words, pressing the barrels more firmly against your cheek. " you don't get it, do you? " he laughs. " it's time you step down. you ain't walkin' outta here at the end of this. "
your panic-wide eyes frantically flit across Sam's face, appearing calm as ever. how the hell is he doing it? your heart's almost pounding out of your chest, your face is throbbing from the previous blows against it, your eyes are wide and your chest is rising and falling quickly with each panicked breath. you look completely opposite to him.
Sam shakes his head. " as i said before, because it's you, Benny, i'll make it quick and painless if you stop this now. " he pauses, taking in the slight shake in Benny's hand. he wonders if it's from adrenaline or slowly growing fear. " but if you keep her in this fight any longer i'll guarantee you'll be pleading for me to get it over with. "
you shudder at his tone. you trust in his plan, whatever it may be, to get you both out of here alive and mostly unharmed. though, that feeling is drained from you the moment Benny scoffs, cocking the shotgun. you feel the harsh click against your cheek, the sound of it reverberating in your ears.
" love's made you blind, old man. this ends right here, right now. " you can barely think as the barrels move from your cheek in the blink of an eye and are aimed at Sam's head before you or Sam can react.
a scream rips from your throat as you watch Benny fire at Sam, the pellets tearing through the right side of his face. the force of the shot sends him flying into an old bench, the sound of the splintering wood echoing through the room.
your eyes are wide in horror and your ears are ringing from the blast; you feel sick. he had a plan, right? how could this have happened? how could he have-
" you know, dollface, i might just take you for a spin. " Benny's nauseating voice manages to push through the ringing. " see what this old man was so willing to lay down for. "
you squirm against the ropes, tears pricking at your eyes. " no- " the rope cuts into your wrist, your skin is raw and bloody from the straining.
Benny throws down the shotgun to the side, shrugging his suit jacket off. " no, no- " you choke out, writhing against the rope as Benny nears you.
" now now, don't be like that, Baby. " he tsk's, dirty hands pulling at your shoulders. you sob as you writhe and kick, managing to push against one of Benny's shins. " son of a bitch-! " he curses, though the kick and movement tips your chair over, sending you crashing to the floor.
you let out a pained cry as you hit the floor, still trying to somehow loosen the rope enough to get free from the chair. a sob rips through you as you catch a glimpse of Sam's limp and unbelievably bloody body, practically molded to the shape of the broken bench.
" you know what, broad? i was thinking about being nice, but that was the last drop. " Benny sneers, stepping one leg of the chair and bending over you.
" get off of me! don't-! " you cry, trashing against the rope and his vile hands.
" knock it off you bitch, stay still! "
" stop-! get your hands off of me! "
your stomach drops the moment he gets you free of the chair and manages to pin you down on your stomach, your tear stained cheek pressed against the dirty floor. he straddles the back of your thighs, his figure pressing you down. " c'mon, you know it'll feel better if you just cooperate, dollface. "
you writhe against him, tears streaming down your face as you try to fight him with all your remaining strength. you feel the bile rising in your throat as you feel him somehow tear a giant hole in your suit on your lower back. " there, that should make this easier. " you want to throw up. " i'll admit you've got a rockin' bod in this suit, but damn, it's a pain to get you out of it. "
" please- " you sob, your voice cracking in desperation, " he's dead, just like you wanted- just kill me already-! " you clench your eyes shut as you feel your body start to give out against him. panic is flowing through you and your hands and feet start to tingle; the sensation slowing numbing your limbs.
" now why would i want to do that? you managed to get that old idiot wrapped around your finger, " you could taste the bile coming up your throat as you try to struggle against him. " and i want to know what all the fuss is about- "
Benny pauses as the sounds of awful squelching and excruciating cracking echoes through the room. your eyes snap open, your heart pounding so hard you're afraid it might break through your ribs. " what the-? "
he holds still for a moment, eyes on the side of your face as he watches your face contort in pure horror. his eyes snap to the direction you're looking — laying eyes on the most horrifying thing he's ever witnessed.
Sam, sitting up in the wreckage of the broken bench with low grunts of pain, his partially shattered jaw welding itself back together. you let out a painful gasp in disgust and horror as you watch muscle by muscle of his mutilated face is stretching and weaving themselves back together; slowly pulling his jaw back into place.
" what the fucking fuck?! " Benny exclaims in disbelief and fear, stumbling off of you to dash for his shotgun. you lay frozen on the ground as you watch his mutilated and bloody skin slowly weave itself back together over each bare, muscly area of his face until his face no longer bears the evidence of Benny's shotgun.
Sam gets up with awful sounding grunts, his horrifyingly blood shot eyes watch Benny fumble the shotgun, shakily aiming it at him and he tries to stumble away. a deafening bang! echoes through the room, Benny's shot having missed Sam. " fuck! " he shouts in full panic, desperately trying to reload the gun with shaky hands.
though it's of no use to Benny as Sam's heavy fist slams against the side of his face, a brutal crack! sounding clear as Benny's easily knocked to the floor.
you clench your eyes shut to evade the possibility of catching a glimpse of the two men; though the moment you close your eyes, you're met with the image of Sam's face slowly weaving itself back together. you snap your eyes open again, tears streaming down your face as you instead curl your aching body inwards, staring at your knees as you listen to the nauseating sounds of Sam's fists slamming down against Benny's face, along with his gut wrenching pleas for death.
you don't know when it all stopped, when Benny croaked out his last plea or when Sam landed the last punch. all you know is that it's silent now, the only sounds in the room are your raspy breaths and the heavy, petrifying pants from Sam.
" honey, are you- " Sam lets out harrowing coughs, dropping forward in extreme exhaustion. " sweetheart? " he calls out, his voice rough and raspy. his bloody hands rest flat against the grimy and blood covered floor, his elbows threatening to buckle.
a heavy hand comes to hold your shoulder, the touch pulling a cracked shriek from your lips as you thrash against the hand in panic. " it's me, honey, honey-! it's me! " Sam's rough voice tries to calm you, his slippery, blood-covered hands untying the rough rope around your bloody and cut up wrists.
you writhe and squirm against him, broken and panicked sobs leaving your sore throat. Sam manages to untie all of the rope, his aching arms pulling you tightly against his blood stained chest. " sweetheart, please, i'm right here— sh, sh, shh. i'm right here. you're safe, we're gonna be alright. "
his words slowly push through, your wide, teary eyes blinking as they're met with that familiar red tie. he watches with pained eyes as you slowly look up at him, your eyes almost afraid to fully look up at his face.
but when you finally do, his heart completely breaks at the look in your eyes. " Sam..? " your voice cracks, the name barely audible to anyone else but him.
he nods, one of his big, bloody hands coming up to turn your face back against his chest as he holds you close. " i'm here, honey. " he assures you, his sore and aching figure rocking the two of you back and forth. " i'm right here. "
BANG!
" Sam-! "

" Benny exclaims in disbelief and fear, stumbling off of you to dash for his shotgun. you lay frozen on the ground as you watch his mutilated and bloody skin slowly weave itself back together over each bare, and muscly area of his face until his face no longer bares the evidence of any injury.
" baby, wake up! "
you jolt straight up with a piercing, raspy cry, eyes wild as you nearly manage to throw yourself off of the bed. " you're alright! honey, careful-! " a pair of large hands pull at your waist to keep you from falling off the edge of the bed — but the feeling only makes you panic more.
" get- get off me! " you cry, eyes shut as you thrash against the hands.
" please, baby, please- " the voice feels a little closer, more real than before. the two big hands hold each side of your face, thumbs rubbing circles into your cheekbones. " come back to me, you're alright. he's gone, he can't hurt you. "
you snap your eyes open at the firm hold of the two hands, your wild eyes meeting Sam's pained ones. it takes you a minute of heavy, ragged breathing before your eyes show signs of recognition. he watches them blink rapidly, shifting from panicked to sad and hurt. " you're alright, sweetheart. you're alright. " his voice slowly spreads through you like a steady stream of something soothing.
" i thought you were- " you choke out a sob, " you were- " tears steadily roll down your cheeks, dripping over Sam's thick thumbs.
his heart throbs in pain as he pulls your clammy hands up to his face, pressing them to cup his face. " i'm right here, right here with you. "
your chest still heaves as you experimentally swipe a thumb across his right cheek, feeling the hot skin beneath your digit. Sam's eyes sadden, he knows you deserve answers after what happened yesterday; but the words seem to be stuck in his throat.
he nods wordlessly at your expression, knowing what you're thinking about. " c'mon, lay down. " he gently urges you, leaning you back against the pillows. he moves closer, wrapping a heavy arm around your waist as he lays his head on your chest. " i'll tell you everything when we wake up again, i promise i will. "
you inhale deeply at the feeling of his face pressed against your exposed chest, his nose nudging against the base of your throat. your shaky hands rake through his hair, one hand resting tentatively on the right side of his face. you feel Sam exhale sadly at the feeling. he in turn raises his hand to cover yours that rests against his cheek, holding your hand lovingly.
he knows it's going to take a long while for you to heal from this, but he'll be there every step of the way and never leave your side.

" whoever dug it and covered it must've been in a hurry. shall i dig it up, Mr. Axe? "
" don't keep 'em waiting, Mikey. "

" would you look at that head of hair, *whistles*. what a looker. "
" shall i take her to your doctor, Sir? "
" if you hurry it up you should make it before midnight. you jus' better hurry it up. "
an overwhelming wave of pain shoots through your head, causing you to shoot up and grasp at your head — your heart stops as your fingers are met with bandages covering your forehead and the majority of the back of your head. " what the hell? " you gasp, face scrunching up in agony.
you pry your eyes open, bright at first, but soon warm and dim lights light up the room around you. you blink quickly, willing your eyes to focus on your surroundings. your eyes are wide once they flit around the space, a large, very clean bedroom. stylishly furnished, plants and paintings decorating the room.
you look down at what you're sitting on; a king sized bed with thick posts at each foot, ridiculously soft bedding beneath your sweaty skin. your eyes widen more as they look at what you're wearing — a dark red, silk robe. what the fuck?
you move off the bed, taking deep breaths as your vision darkens a tad when you stand to your full height, your hands desperately holding onto one of the thick wooden posts. were you dead? was this the afterlife?
once you feel a little more confident in your ability to move you look around the room for your gear, finding them on a chair beside a vanity with a sheet covering the mirror. you'll kill two birds with one stone — you'll grab your things, as well as see how bad your injuries are.
the closer you get to your things, the closer you get to the mirror. you notice a note on it, written neatly;
'i'd wait with looking, doll. it ain't pretty.'
you frown, your heart pounding. how bad was it? your hand hovers over the sheet, debating it. if this was Hell, you'd rather not see what's beneath it in all honesty.
you move to your gear, yanking your pistol from your holster. you check it, fully loaded and all in one piece. you take a deep breath, looking up to the door leading out of the room. your hand shakes as you raise it to the handle. you take a deep breath, counting to three, before you throw the door open.
you step out of the room, gun raised as you scan the hall. the hall is equally nice looking, large and spacious, with disturbingly clean furniture and decor lining the walls.
you step down the hall, eyes on a big arch. the closer you get to the arch the more you can see through it — a lounge room with big, almost floor to ceiling windows. and in front of one, stands a man. he's impeccably dressed; clean, neat suit and a smoking cigar in hand as he stares out the window.
you cock your gun, aiming it at the man with a slight shake in your hand. " well, you've had quite the kick in the head, baby. " smoke bellows from between the man's lips. he turns, a smile finding it's way onto his face as he glances down at the gun you've got trained on him. " damn incredible, that you're stood up, let alone able to hold up that pistol you got aimed at me. " he let's out a low, appreciative whistle.
you adjust your grip on the gun, using your other hand to press against your temple at another wave of pain. you lean against the wall with your shoulder for stability. " who the fuck are you? "
you watch the man's rather charming face break out in a large, dark grin. " oh, i'm your guardian angel, sweetheart. "
the wave of pain intensifies, sending you dropping to your knees, clutching your head in agony. he slowly makes his way to you, his nearly pristine dress shoes coming into view. he kneels down just as your body gives up, fainting out of the intensity of the pain. he holds you off the floor, lifting your limp figure up and into his arms. " tsk tsk, can't have you further injuring yourself, now can we, doll? "
you groan as you wake up, your head feels heavy yet light at the same time. you crack your eyes open, finding yourself in the same neat, well furnished bedroom as before. your head hurt significantly less, only a dull ache remained. you assume that he had given you something against the pain.
you grunt, sitting up in the plush bed. your hand hesitantly raises, fingers now brushing over your bare forehead. the room was more dim than was before you passed out, only a faint light peaks from under the door. how long had you been out for?
you slide off the bed, your bare feet hitting the clean, carpeted floor. you glance at the vanity, the sheet that had covered the mirror had been pulled off, now it lay folded on the dresser beside the vanity. your gear remains on the chair, along with your gun.
you set slow steps forward, your actions still a little dopey from whatever he had given you for the pain. you move your gear aside, dropping it onto the bed as you're careful to avoid looking in the mirror. you close your eyes as you sit down on the chair, turning to face the mirror.
you take a deep breath, counting to three in under your breath before opening your eyes. oh, he wasn't kidding. your eyes are glued to the large wound on your forehead where you had been shot. fresh looking stitches line the wound. it looked to be more than a few days old. how long had you been here?
a faint sliding sound snaps your attention away from the injury, your eyes darting to the crack beneath the door where a note had been slid under. you stand up, hesitantly bending down for pick it up. you were greeted by the same neat handwriting,
'meet me in the armory. two doors down to the left. take all the time you need.' - Sam.
you blink at the note. you look around the room, eyes landing on the large dresser. would there be any clothes in it? you set the note on the vanity, getting up from the chair as you pull a drawer open. and to your surprise, the drawer is full of clothes. all neatly folded and impeccably clean. where the hell did you end up?
the armory wasn't hard to find with his instructions, you had turned down the hall to the left, walked past two large doors until you were met with a third set of doors that were left on a crack.
you push the door open, the heavy wooden door swinging open with a soft groan. your eyes widen as they're met with his armory — a spacious room with various guns lining the walls on gorgeous displays. a set of sturdy looking armor, combat if you had to guess, resting on a large workbench.
you didn't have the words to do this space justice.
" can i interest you in something to eat? " his voice sounds from down the room. you look up, finding him sat in a chair — legs spread as he cleans a long rifle. he's lost the suit jacket, his sleeves are rolled up to his elbows as he works on the rifle. now that you look at it, your rifle.
you watch him gesture to the small table a few feet away from him. " i had a bit of everything brought up. i figured you'd be famished after being out for so long. "
you look over at the table, plate after plate of various things covering the small table. before you can answer, your stomach answers for you, growling loudly at the sight. the sound makes him laugh, a sound that makes your heart nearly skip a beat.
you hesitantly take a seat at the table across from him, eyeing the food. he catches on, " doll, if i wanted to poison you, i wouldn't have made the effort to dig you up. " nothing but absolute gentle understanding in his voice.
you breathe in, moving to stab a fork into a dish. the moment the food nears your nose your mouth waters. oh wow.
he looks up, watching as you push a bite between your lips. he smiles as your face lights up, chewing and swallowing quickly.
he hums a quiet tune as he finishes putting your rifle back together, setting everything aside. he stands to his full height, watching you stuff down bite after bite while he moves his chair to sit at the table. " i bet you're wondering why you're still breathing, huh? " he observes how your chewing nearly stops, your eyes shooting up to catch his.
he takes your full attention as a sign to continue. " i could also bet that you and a loudly dressed man had a, nasty, altercation out there in the desert, hm? "
you scowl at his words, the memory of Benny unpleasant. " as nice as the food is, Sam, " you watch his brows twitch and the corners of his lips lift at the sound of his name coming from you. " what the hell do you want with me? "
Sam smiles, shaking his head lightly. " fantastic question, my dear. " he leans forward against his interlocked fingers. " though, a better question would be, what can i do for you? "
you swallow down the bite you had in your mouth, pushing the dish away. the thought of Benny made you lose your appetite quickly. " 'fuck do you mean? " your scowl intensifies. you're hesitant about where this conversation is going.
his face softens as he takes in your sudden and strong discomfort, a look of sympathy in his soft brown eyes. " what do you want most in this world, right now? " he offers, sitting back in his chair as a sign that he's giving you space. you think on his question, scowl lessening and your brows furrowing in thought.
" i can guess by the look on your face, you'd like to make Benny pay, huh? "
your eyes widen at the name, " you know Benny? "
Sam nods. " maybe not personally, but everyone ‘round here knows the poor excuse of a man. "
he can tell your full attention is on him, interested in his next words. he shifts in his chair, crossing his legs. " that’s a nice rifle you’ve got, " he nods to the now clean rifle that lay beside him on a rack. " are you good with it? "
you lean back, crossing your arms. " where’s this going? "
he grins, " wanting to get right down to it, i respect that in a woman. " he nods, uncrossing his legs as he leans forward against his interlocked fingers once more. " i can offer you a place to stay and well-paying work, " he pauses, carefully observing your face. " if you prove yourself on a few jobs, i’ll tell you everything you’ll need to know to go after Benny. "
" deal. "
his grins widens, " the job’s not for the faint of heart, you know, "
you lean forward, scoffing. " i can get it done. "
he leans in more, " yeah? "
your brows twitch, " yeah. "
you watch him for a second as he thinks, then nods. " finish up whatever you still want to eat, i’ll give you the details in the morning. "
he stands up from the chair, brushing two fingers over the rifle before he strides to the door. " by the way, sweetheart, " he calls, looking back at you.
you turn in your seat, meeting his eyes. "hm? "
he tilts his head with a teasing grin, " excellent choice in a rifle. "
and with that, he leaves you to yourself. you turn back to the food, blinking at the interaction. you didn't know what to make of that man. besides that he’s annoyingly charming.
to say you aren't tired is an understatement. you're wide awake. your head feels better, and after who knows how many days of sleep, you don't think you could even fall asleep if you wanted to.
and with the information that Sam highly likely knows where Benny is, you definitely can't sleep.
so you find yourself wandering the well-decorated halls of his place, exploring each room you come across. each room equally as nice as the last, nearly pristine furniture filling each. the one question you're burning to ask, is how on earth did he get everything this clean and good looking? you'd been to some nice places before, definitely aimed towards the more wealthy folks — but nothing could ever compare to this place.
you pass a room with a door on a crack, steam or smoke slowly slipping between the crack. you let curiosity get the better of you, slightly nudging the door open. your cheeks flush as you're met with the sight of Sam's bare back and broad shoulders, his lower half hidden in the tub of steaming water he's resting in.
you can't tear your eyes off his dewy skin, his thick, strong arms resting on each side of the tub and a cigar in his left hand. his salt and pepper hair is wet, pushed back out of his face. a few strands stray from the rest.
you suck in a breath, quickly moving away from the door as you quickly make your way to the room you had been staying in. you close the door, pressing your back against it with a shaky sigh. damn him.
little do you know, Sam chuckles to himself, letting the smoke from his cigar bellow from his lips. he knows you were there.

authors note sorry for the end feeling a little rushed, i wrote ch4 before i wrote this and just reallyyy wanted to get to the next chapter already 😭😅 get ready for the next chapter y'all cause it's gonna be a ROLLERCOASTER.
you're carrying your chest piece under your arm by the time the elevator arrives at the fourteenth floor, your rifle hanging from your shoulder by its strap. the elevator ride no longer feels unfamiliar, the elegant walls now feel eerily like home each time you ride up after an exhausting trek back after a job.
Mike awaits you at the fourteenth floor as usual, greeting you and asking you how the job went. the answer this evening is the same as it usually is, " it went well, Mike. "
" splendid. would you like me to take your rifle to the armory? "
" not tonight, it'll be fine in my room. "
" alright. anything else? "
" i'm alright, Mike. "
you watch the bot roll down the hall and out of view. you push the door open to your room, the sight of your bed luring you in. you groan as you work on pulling off your armor, dropping each piece onto the dresser as you pull them off.
a sigh of relief swirls from your lips as you pull the zipper of your suit down, your body temporarily free from the weight of your armor.
a knock on the door pulls you out of your thoughts. you walk towards the door, pulling it open to find Mike in front of it. " good evening, a 'thank you' from Mr. Axe for the job. " his metal finger-like claws hold a platter, a nice hot meal, a smallish box and a note.
you smile, taking ahold of the platter. " thank you, Mike. " he hums, before turning and rolling away from the door. you push the door shut with your hip, eyeing the platter eagerly. you set it down on the spacious desk, setting the box aside. you unfold the letter, Sam's familiar and neat handwriting greeting you;
'meet me upstairs when you're done eating.' - S.
you like his thing with notes — though the first two you ever received were suspicious at the time, you've grown to adore them.
your body fills with excitement and curiosity at the note, eager to find out what awaits you upstairs. you set the note aside, picking up the fork and knife beside the plate and dig in. as eager as you are to head upstairs, your stomach is more eager to eat.
you set the plate aside once you're finished, your eyes moving to the box with the thin, dark red ribbon. you gently undo the ribbon, lifting the lid of the box. your lips part in a silent gasp as you lay eyes on what's inside — a stunning silver 9mm pistol, with writing gorgeously engraved on the side of the barrel. on the handle was an engraved image of playing card with an ace of hearts on it.
' my kick in the head '
you pick up the pistol, turning it in your hand. it felt incredible. you couldn't wipe the smile off your lips even if you wanted to — he was always so thoughtful. his gifts, or 'thank you's were always something useful. he was a gifting man, rather giving you something you need than merely handing you a bag of caps after a job.
you set the pistol down on the desk, pushing your chair back. you stand up, pushing a few curls from before your eyes and walk towards the door. you were more than eager to thank him for this.
as you step up the red-carpeted stairs you wonder where he'll be, but the moment you step up the last stair you can see the bathroom door on a crack, steam and smoke slightly swirling out.
you smile to yourself as you reach the door and push it open, the warmth of the steam welcoming you. " you sent for me? " you teasingly laugh, a sound that sends a smile to Sam's lips.
you close the door behind you and lean against it, taking in Sam's naked chest, salt and pepper hair covering the skin. you smirk to yourself as you shamelessly drag your eyes across each inch of his figure you can see.
" you know, i bet there's less than a handful of people left on this earth who can say they've had a hot bath. " his dark eyes watching you as he takes a sip from his glass. a pleased, small smile rests on his lips as he watches you take him in. " did you like the gift? "
you hum and nod. " something so beautiful, for that job? " you tease, pushing your suit off your shoulders. you wiggle your hips as you push it down them, pulling your legs out one by one. you drop the suit beside you, slowly making your way to the tub. " i'd almost think you're already going soft on me, Sam. " you grin, pulling your simple bra over your head and dropping it beside the tub.
he merely watches your bare figure, each curve, each movement. you bend down, pulling your underwear down and stepping out of them. " you did exceptionally well on this job, don't you think you deserve a high reward? " he sets his glass down at the base of the tub on the floor.
you smile, swinging one leg over the edge of the tub and into the hot water. you close your eyes at the sensation, lips parted in pleasure. after this, you don't think you could ever go without a hot bath.
Sam's eyes darken, his large hand guiding your other leg in as the other hand holds your hip. he watches you closely as you let out a low moan at the feeling of both legs in the hot water. his big hands pull you closer by your hips, settling you in his lap. " atta girl. there, how's that feel, baby? "
you let out a deep breath as you sink further into the tub and into his lap. " it feels so good, " you moan, eyes closed as you take it in.
his hands drag up and down your waist. " yeah? " you nod, your chest slowly rising and falling in front of him. his hands tilt your hips, pulling them even closer to his. your hands move to hold the edge of the tub behind him, your arms resting against his bare shoulders.
Sam leans in, his lips ghosting over your skin as his hands drag up your back, his thick fingers rubbing circles against your tense muscles. " in my eyes, no words or gifts could show how invaluable you are to me, " you let out a low moan as his fingers slowly massage and release the tension built up.
he presses his lips to your collarbone, pressing tender kisses across your dewy skin. your chest moves closer to him, heaving beneath his lips. " oh right- right there, Sam- " you gasp as his fingers work just below your shoulder blades, the pressure and relief feels euphoric.
he grins against your skin, " when's the last time someone treated you right, hm? " he lets out a deep breath as you roll your hips against his. his lips trail down, pulling another gasp from you as he wraps his lips around your nipple.
you moan as he swirls his tongue expertly around the bud, your eyes rolling back at the pleasure. " s'been too long, " you pant, cheeks flushing in pleasure and embarrassment.
he hums against your skin, his thick dark brows furrowing in pleasure as you roll your hips against his thick, hardening cock. he releases your nipple, kissing his way to the other one. " then let me take care of you, baby. " he breathes, his hands still massaging your back.
you nod, your hands straying from the tub's edge. one holds onto Sam's shoulder, the other carding through the hair at the back of his neck as his lips wrap around your other nipple. god, you hadn't even realised how much tension had built up in your muscles. and Sam intends to work every last strand of it out, inch by inch.
you drop your head into the crook of Sam's neck, panting and sweating in the aftermath of a much more pleasurable 'thank you's of his. " damn.. " you chuckle breathlessly against his equally sweaty skin. the bath was starting to run cold, the air a tad more chilly now.
Sam grins, combing his fingers through your full curls that have started to frizz up. " how do you feel now? " the ends of your hair are wet from having been dipped into the water each time you lean back.
" like i can't ever go without this bath again. " you laugh tiredly, slowly pushing yourself up. you shift in his lap, a low whimper leaving your lips as you feel him twitch against your walls. you untie the thin piece of rope around your wrist, gathering your hair up and out of the way as you tie it up.
" in all seriousness, thank you, Sam. " you breathe, letting your arms return to his shoulders.
his grin widens, " you deserve it. like i said, you're worth more than anything to me. " he pauses, a silly look on his face. " well, maybe not more the bath.. " he trails, before laughing. you join him in laughter, playfully smacking his chest. " let's get you dried off. i think you deserve some time off, don't you agree? "
you yawn, shrugging. " i don't know, i like going out on jobs. working is all i've ever really known. " you shudder as you lift yourself off him, your walls clenching around nothing at the loss of him. Sam helps turn you around, his large hands on your hips as he guides you to standing.
" if you want to keep working, you can. just remember to take breaks every now and then, alright? " he replies as he holds your hand as you step out of the large tub and onto the cold tile floor. he grabs a large, somehow soft towel from the stack, draping it over your shoulders.
you gasp at the soft material, looking up at him with wide eyes. " i really don't understand how everything here is so damn perfect. this is ridiculously soft, are you kidding me?? " you whine while drying yourself off.
Sam laughs, " now, what would be the fun in revealing my great secret? it keeps you guessing and interested, doesn't it? " he teases.
you laugh, snuggling into the soft towel. " i suppose so. "
you decided to take a short break from working after all, enjoying the peaceful mornings and entertaining days in Sam's penthouse. you'd occasionally wander down to the casino, sipping on a drink as you watch the patrons.
you yawn, pulling a silk robe on as you step into the slippers Sam gave you. the soft tones of jazz music flow through the penthouse as you make your way to the lounge.
you pause in the doorway, glancing around. you frown, usually Sam meets you here each morning, a fresh cup of coffee ready just how you like it, by the couch.
you turn around, reaching for the small buzzer on the wall. a sharp 'click!' sounds, followed by a low static as you click the button. " Mike? do you know where Sam is? "
it only takes two seconds before the static turns into Mike's familiar voice. " mr. Axe is with me in the armory. "
huh. you glance at the large clock behind you, what could be so important this early? your frown deepens as you make your way to the armory. surely nothing too bad, right?
" well, send my thanks to the King for this. now we need to see how we use this information. " Sam's voice reaches your ears.
" everything alright? " you ask, sleep’s still evident in your voice.
Sam's head flicks up, his dark eyes softening as they land on you. his honey-brown eyes tracing along your sleep-messy hair before returning to your eyes. " everything's alright. Mike, will you excuse us? " he glances over to his metal companion.
" of course, sir. shall i start preparing breakfast? "
" that sounds good, Mike. " he nods.
you offer Mike a small wave as he exits the room, pulling the door shut behind him. " what was that about? " you ask, yawning as you make your way to the chair directly beside Sam.
“ news about a potential new job. word is Benny’s been moving foolishly stolen supplies from the King around. " now that wakes you right up. “ he’ll give us the location of Benny’s new warehouse if we bring the supplies back in return. "
you sit up straight in the chair, your own eyes darkening a little. " when can i get started? "
Sam chuckles, the sound is tight though. " well, " he trails, pulling turning the map on the table to face you as he starts explaining the plan.
it wasn't a hard place to find in the end. the location was out of the way, sure, but not too difficult to find. you lay flat against the rocks, helmet on as you stare through your scope at the terrain below you.
a few small buildings and enough flat, clear terrain surrounding the place. there was no wandering in in broad daylight, they'd see you coming, that's for sure. once the sun starts to set you can make your play at sneaking down the hill and through the weak spot in the gate.
you adjust your hold, shifting the toes of your boots to press sturdier on the ground. the movement causes a low 'crack!' to sound from a branch beneath you — the sound reverberates a little louder than it should. you frown, glancing through the corner of your eye behind you for any movement.
in a matter of seconds you're being pulled up to your feet by the back of your helmet. " what the-! " you panic, squirming against the strangers' painful hold. " let go of me! "
a low chuckle emits from your other side, and in the blink of an eye your helmet's torn clean off your head. you blink rapidly, trying to quickly adjust to the change in light as you trash against your attackers.
though without warning, the solid butt of a gun collides with your temple, knocking you out cold.
