Max + Light Motifs
s2 ep2 - The Golden Rule, s2 ep7 - The Handoff, S2 ep8 - The Strip
lucy was actually ready to give the ghoul a stimpack (even after how badly he acted) before the legion girl called out for help.
and lucy seems really, legitimately torn about this decision too.
he says "gimmie a stimpack" and lucy jumps right into action. "help me" from the girl gives her pause — and then it's rationalization time: "i only have one...she'll die without it, [the ghoul] won't".
i just want you to pay attention to lucy's facial expressions throughout the entirety of this clip. this is like a nightmare situation for lucy; because either decision would leave a person in pain.
yes, a PERSON. she literally refers to the ghoul as a "person" (pretty emphatically too) earlier on the road. and she continues to see him that way despite what she says to him. which is proven by her later pretty immediate *looks back* "i'll come back for you" *looks back* "i wouldn't worry about him...he'll be fine." *looks back* (veeery convincing lucy)
AND ALSO NOW THAT WE'RE ON THE TOPIC OF WHAT SHE SAYS TO HIM. i think she reacts particularly vicious after "golden rule motherfucker" because she's breaking this precedent of kindness in the face of vulgarity between them and there's regret, maybe guilt there.
outside the SDM she saves his life despite the reason they're there in the first place (he's selling her for vials)— she's actually already made the decision to bring him vials before she sees him collapsed outside!!!
and now on this journey together they may have their differences but they do ultimately have each other's backs. his plan is to be captured/in harm's way at novac. and she does shoot the rope.
but this, here, now? she made (in her eyes) a near impossible decision. and feels immediate doubts and regret about it. and, funnily enough, acts a lot like the ghoul by lashing out with cruelty to cover up her feelings.
cooper's words conjure all of lucy's insecurities at once. "i'm nothing like you." oooooh but you are lucy. you are.
normal way to look at a girl you're indifferent to btw
you ain't slick cooper... i know your game, i know your mind.
