False Dreams, False Visions, False Guidance

Ezekiel 22.28

And her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD', when the LORD has not spoken.

I was curious to see what various religious teachers had to say about the pandemic that has gripped the world for the past year and what advice they were giving their followers.  I expected that they would be warning their congregations about the creeping authoritarianism and the end of the age.  At the very least, I expected to hear warnings about the judgments of God and the obvious attacks on organized religion by government entities.

None of that was evident.  Instead, I found heresy and conspiracy theories.

In fact, one pastor's wife shocked me by saying that the Lord had revealed to her that the 'beast' talked about in Revelation 13 is not a person at all but is a 'system'; that Revelation 13.15 doesn't really mean that anyone will 'worship' the beast, but that we will simply be fond of our technology; that Revelation 13.16 does not mean that anyone will be forced to take the mark, but will be conned into taking it; that the COVID-19 vaccine is the 'mark'; and that it was revealed to her in a dream five years ago, that 'many will take the mark in error'.

There was no explanation as to how one might receive the vaccine 'on their right hand or on their forehead' (Revelation 13.16) nor why the Bible specifically tells us in verse 15 that 'as many as do not worship the image of the beast' will be killed.  Mention of that was conveniently omitted.

For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd.  —Zechariah 10.2 (ESV)

So instead of warnings about God's judgment and the end of the age, I found troubling teachings and unsubstantiated rumors based on false dreams that had not come from God.

People, we need to pray for discernment!

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  —1 John 4.1 (NASB)

I don't know why these things continue to surprise me.  Perhaps because it's still a bit surreal to read the headlines in the pages of the prophets.

Why do I still quail at growing oppression and censorship, at illogical edicts, unscientific mandates, and the masses of people repeating lies and following corrupt leaders like lost sheep, when I know full well, they are afflicted by the delusion God has sent? (See 2 Thessalonians 2.11-12)

Like you, I need to spend much more time in prayer and the Word, for things are rapidly careening out of control

Our Lord has given us a warning:

'See to it that no one misleads you.  For many will come in My name, saying, "I am the Christ," and will mislead many.'  —Matthew 24.4-5 (NASB)

The only way to be certain that we are not misled is to rely completely on Jesus.

A note about the U.S. presidential election: No, I have no idea what's going on or what God has planned.  According to the prophet Daniel, when Israel is attacked the second time, ships from the west will sail to her aid (Daniel 11).  I assumed that those ships will come from the U.S., and since the left hates Israel, I assumed that the left would lose the election.  Yes, I've made a lot of assumptions, and those assumptions may have been wrong.  Though the left has always engaged in fraud, I was unprepared for the massive corruption we've seen this November. However, God was not caught off-guard; therefore, He has a plan.  I will wait to see what that plan is and, with His help, will deal with whatever comes, as we all must.
