As you know if you read @parabolamagazine , I do this exercise with my students on the first day of class every semester. We write three-sentence autobiographies in which nothing can be true except our names (because I am terrible at remembering them anyway and fake names would really fuck me up). It takes fifteen minutes and i always feel like I get to know my students better from lives they invent than from actual facts.
