“so you’re gonna leave? after everything? just like that?” it’s not the first crossroads they’ve come to, metaphorical or otherwise, but the words carry extra weight this time. is it a threat? is she meant to take it that way? if it is, why does she care?
she’s used to the way he sees things now, at least to some extent. she’s not naive enough to think she’ll ever remotely understand who he is or what drives him, but she can guess at how he’ll react to things well enough to keep herself out of the line of fire. she’s not surprised that he’d just shrug off them going their separate ways, she’s just surprised that it hurts.
north is dangerous. north is a death sentence and they both know it. the valley spreading below echoes with the promise of an end that should have come weeks back, back in the city, back at the start — parting ways now feels like a bad joke after everything.
“at least stay the fucking night and we can think it through and make a plan. you’re just gonna get yourself killed if you just charge in.”
