I fundamentally disagree with Thomas Jefferson and Mark Twain. "Never use two words when one will do," "don't use a five-dollar word when a fifty-cent word will do," I'm going to turn a single sentence into an essay and it's going to cost five hundred dollars per word because those are the right words to get across what I mean without ambiguity and misunderstanding, thankyouverymuch
Finally read through Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs To Die by @pangur-and-grim on my planes and bus yesterday!
Incredibly funny. Put an incomplete (my phone died) compilation of lines that made me lose my shit in public.
I was really surprised (positively) at how sweet it got in the middle?
Line that almost made me cry but my phone was dead: “Chickens will be the same.”
LOVED the setting and the way it was conveyed. Aspirational worldbuilding. 10/10
Favorite characters (surprising absolutely no one) were Hydna (god the woman that she is) and Lunatic Freak (I <3 Lunatic Freak)
BUT I did also hugely enjoy the way everyone was autistic in there. Best representation since the Stormlight Archive except that I’m reasonably sure that it was on purpose this time, so. Win!!!
10/10, can’t wait to read it again. Hands down one of my favorite of the books I’ve read lately (up there with Gideon the Ninth and Men at Arms)!! Unfortunately I have to say that I do regret reading it because now all three (3!) of my partners won’t stop comparing me to Sir Cameron and frankly I’m not sure how to take it. Like that can’t be good. But I digress.
Obligatory cat tax because we do have Pangur and Grim to thank for getting these guys (reblogged @talesfromtreatment’s post about them back in January and now they live in my house <3)(and they’re getting BIG)
Let's be friends 😜
So the Louvre heist is sad but funny
But what's funnier is the timing based on OTHER French news.
If I have understood correctly, the French government is in complete turmoil right now: a PM who lasted like 14 hours in office (who I think has been asked to come back!? Despite insane unpopularity) and an increasingly unpopular (that's sugar coating) president.
And last week, a descendant of Louis XVI (the king who was beheaded during the French Revolution) basically went "Hey guys ;) " in reference to all the government turmoil.
Were. Were the French crown jewels stolen because they're going to crown this guy king of France.
It won't happen but when it does, I called it.
So humbling to get suddenly hyperfixated on a topic or piece of media and you’re like surely everyone on tumblr is freaking out about this and then you search a few tags and you’re like oh okay so this isn’t a cultural movement, I just got overexcited.
