"Power means nothing in a vacuum if you aren’t human enough to be able to live without it." That line pried my third eye open with a crowbar. It concisely states how i felt about the way mp100 deals with shonen-y over the top power so well! That whole post was Gold
I’m glad to hear that you liked my post! ♥
I wanted to try to put down in words my main thoughts about it and I think that the balance between power and humanity and the way in which it’s dealt with in the show really makes it stand out from others.
And I think that one of the main elements that sets it apart as well is that Mob knows it from the very start, he understands the importance of humanity and cherishes it in his everyday life. That scene of him as a kid meeting Reigen is amazing. And how he admires people for being able to do things he can’t, not with contempt at all, but with awe and yearning to learn how to do those things too.
More so than in many shows I’ve seen I feel like the support system in this show is amazing. It’s not just people gravitating towards a protagonist because he’s powerful but because of the way in which he lives as a person, powers or not.
I think a lot of it is due to Mob as a character but a lot is also because of Reigen and how he calls out everyone for their bs, even himself when need be, and forces you as a viewer into perspective out from the archetypal shonen and into something more humane. I think that’s pretty powerful for a shonen anime, especially in times in which genres are becoming more stagnant due to market issues and whatnot.
