Day 9 - Presentations
Today we presented our projects to the class! It was super exciting to see what everyone had made in these two weeks!! I had gone around and asked some classmates about their projects and seen many in progress and the final products were amazing! Many impressive sites were shown with different features such as drag and drop, full-text-search, picture upload, o-auth, imbedded audio players, text editors, and responsive sites. Everyone worked way hard and really put their whole souls into their projects. It was really fun to watch each project in the 3 minutes presentations and what features each member had implemented. Afterwards we all received t-shirts and took a group photo. It was a lot of fun! My project was alright and I was able to present it alright with good reactions between features. I am going to continue to work on it and make it better by refactoring the code format where it can be improved, fix all lingering bugs and implement a few other features to learn how I can better improve my coding skills and how to implement new features to my projects in the future.
Day 6 - Profile and design
The user profile page went through surgery today and it was a success! The design looks great with posts of each user displaying under the profile header neatly. After fixing all of the display bugs, the operation went to the delete function. After inserting a few disks and removing tissue here and there it worked as it was designed to function. I also learned about a React Transition effect that can be added to react elements today. It is super simple so I added it to my posts. Now the posts fade into the page when they are loaded and created. Each post also fades out when deleted which makes the experience really fulfilling. I also updated the design of the main header of the site to have buttons like that on Facebook. It looks pretty good which is satisfying.
Now I need to add the create component to the user profile page and the posts function will be done. Next I want to add the friend request/accept/decline feature. Once that is done I will move on to uploading photos so the user can decorate their site. Looking forward to building and learning more tomorrow!
Day 4 - Posts, Routes and Header
The site is becoming more functional. There is now a posts index page on the root page of the site after a user has signed in. Currently it shows all posts of all users. The posts index page was designed using CSS. The boxes look similar to the ones in Facebook. The next feature to be added is a form for users to post their posts and have them show on the index page in real time. Then will come the feature of the users being able to delete posts. It is my goal to get these features implemented over the weekend and hopefully start on the next feature of users having friendships. This project is incredible and sparking learning events and many fires of motivation! I look forward to finishing up the site next week to make something to impress!!
Famebook
Today is the beginning of a great journey!! I named my project Famebook, a clone of Facebook where people gather together to discuss their favorite famous people in any sphere and create avatars of what famous person, real or surreal they would like to be. We began today and I created the authentication for signing up and logging in on the homepage just like Facebook’s site. I am currently in the process of designing the homepage and will move on to the user settings page. Tomorrow I will create the beginning of a single page application beginning with users creating and reading posts. I am making the application using Rails and Flux, and designing with HTML and CSS. I am excited for day two and looking forward to making an app I can have honor in at the end of the 9 days!
