there were so many options presented to him to do as a background to the playlist. cooking, gaming, dancing, getting ready backstage, reading, painting, the list just seemed to keep going. so it was hard to pick when he could do all these things, but jihoon managed to shorten the list by quite a bit. his final decision was to bake because it gave him a great excuse to do something he enjoyed and didn't have time for, while also working. kill two birds with one stone, right? he had given a list of what he would potentially need for the day of the filming and that was pretty much it.
when the day of the filming came, it would have been a big lie if jihoon said he hadn't forgotten, but at least he managed to find the recipe he needed. it wasn't long before he had everything set and the staff gave him the cue to start whatever he planned on doing. it wasn't that hard of a recipe, it was for a lemon drizzle cake, which really, he had done too many times to count by now. forever one of his favorite deserts. so he gets on with it.
measuring everything he needed, from sugar, flour to butter, getting the zest and the lemon juice ready. he had about an hour to finish this and the lemon drizzle cake look a bit less than that, so it would be enough for him to have a bite of it as well by the end of the filming. he works quickly and methodically, using a spatula instead of a mixer to get everything incorporated. before turning the oven on and getting the tray ready. he catches himself vibing to the music a bit too much at times, lipsyncing but doesn't stop himself from doing so. the staff seemed to busy themselves to care what he was actually doing, as long as he didn't set anything on fire, he should be good. within a few more minutes, he pours the mixture in the tin and slams it on the counter as gently as he can, letting all the air out of it before waiting for the oven to indicate its heated up. he waits patiently, enjoy the songs as they change one after another.
when the cake batter finally goes in the oven, he moves to the stools and sits there, phone out and just scrolling through it. reading, watching short videos, whatever he can do to make the next forty-five minutes pass. he had brought his switch with him, which was conveniently placed somewhere on the counter, just within reached, so when jihoon got bored with his phone he moved on to use the switch. animal crossing was his main source of entertainment before his phone buzzed and he had to get up and check on the cake.
he made sure to poke it with a toothpick, in a few places, before taking it out of the oven and placing it on the counter. he hadn't made the drizzle itself, so he got on with that. he made sure to take the cake out of the tin itself once he was done with the drizzle. jihoon lets it cool properly, plate it nicely and have to stop himself from drenching it with the drizzle. he sprinkles some of the left over lemon zest and its nicely presented. the staff let him cut into it, a pretty fluffy yellow interior in comparison to the white drizzle, and jihoon loves it.
he takes a bite from it, while reading something new on his phone, replying to texts, he knows the filming will end soon, but he doesn't mind. he gets to share something he loved doing with the staff, and that was an amazing lemon drizzle cake.
