The first Lapis dialogue was suppose to say six hours instead of five.

The laughing matter is a fourth wall breaker; It's funny because Pearl is a bird. You don't have to get it because Lapis and Peridot's shared sense of humor could be a bit of confusing. (Like in the 'Responsible Earth Citizen' zine comic, and in 'Gem Harvest'.) --------- A sirin has a head and the chest of a woman and the body of a bird, and is attributed to sound/music.

Lapis is a powerful witch who lacks analytical skills. She frequently fails not because she’s weak but because she’s bad at thinking her actions through. So she hires a familiar to fill in her flaws.

What is a familiar?

A familiar is a shape-shifting demon or fairy who acts as a loyal companion and provides services to a witch, warlock, or a non magical individual. They also serve as a spiritual battery and can amplify their witch or sorcerer's magic. A familiar's bond to their person is intense and most find it draining or physically painful whenever they are separated from their charge for too long.

'Familiar' is also a loose term for any non-demon or non-fairy that does a similar companion role.

There are four classifications of familiars and their actions may be limited based on how much authority one has over their affiliated person.

Endowers holds the highest status among the classification since they have almost complete to total control in the familiar-person relationship. They are powerful enough to be able to gift their charge magical skills and can withstand the separation consequence from them. Their protection and services are greater than that from other familiars. But these favors are typically in exchange of extreme payments, such as eternal enslavement.

Guardians are familiars who vow to protect and guide, and they may carry out actions according to what they deemed is best for their charge. Although their charges can still decline these assistances. However, once the familiar brings harm to them, their bond is automatically broken.

Confreres. The familiar and their witch/sorcerer/special person are seen as equals but normally the latter is (allowed to be) the active decider of the two. The familiar may also act as a mere assistant, so long as that is the term they both agreed.

Servile (or thralls*), the lowest status as a familiar. Familiars who have absolutely no power over their bonded person and are typically treated with poor valuation. Their servitude is not limited to one person alone as they may be passed down to whomever their original master chooses. While there are different causes for this status, the expected reason is an individual deceiving the demon or fairy into the service with spiritual traps or a tricky contract.

*I like 'servile' but I'm not sure if it's alright to use an adjective while the rest are nouns. If I decide it's not, then 'thrall' it is.

Ah. I have an AU, yes. Listen, I’m not adept at explaining things so I hope I narrated this in a comprehensible manner. And if there are plot holes, I’ll try to cover that.
