I like the *concept* of a famine after a neutral run happening. But im not a big fan of the actual story of horror tale. Not to mention the recent situation going on with its creator.
So instead im attempting to make my own au with its own story!
The ONLY things its got in common with horrortale is that theres a fanine after a neutral run. Part of sans' head is caved in (though its the opposite side), Payrus' teeth are messed up (though visually different and for a different reason). Maybe his eye light is red idk havent decided yet. And Maybe undyne is queen. But again, havent decided yet. Oh and some humans get eaten
The heat is oppressive and unbearable. Every step you take sends searing pain into your feet. The further you go, the more unstable the ground seems to become, like your next step will cause the ground to crumble and send you into the churning magma below.
It's so silent. You always thought magma would make at least a gurgling sound, but there is nothing. There aren't even any monsters. The only sounds are your footsteps, the sound of your own panting, and the occasional distant rumble of falling rock.
You can't keep going like this. It feels like your lungs are on fire. You collapse onto the searing ground and you scream in pain. You've died before, but you never expected to be cooked alive. You black out.
When you wake up, it's clear that you haven't died. You're lying on a cot in some kind of building with metal walls and stone floors. It's significantly cooler than the cavern outside.
"Oh! Y-you're awake! Thank god..."
A yellow monster in a lab coat approaches you. It seems that the building is a laboratory.
"Um... H-hello! My name is Dr. Alphys. I uh... I found you, over by the tunnel to Stagnant... What were you thinking, you could have died! Don't you know that you need at least a respirator to walk around Skorchdland?"
The yellow monster pauses for a moment, thinking, before looking embarrassed. "Aha... I uh... I guess you wouldn't... So, uh... You're the h-human, right?"
You nod your head. Dr. Alphys seems nervous about something. "Oh man... This is not at all how I wanted today to go..." She paces around anxiously, checking on various devices and occasionally fiddling with them. "I uh... I saw your fight with U-Undyne... She's vicious! That was really clever to run towards Skorchdland! Completely moronic and suicidal, but clever!"
You ask her what's going to happen now. She laughs nervously. "W-well... Technically I'm supposed to... Um... Bring you to King Asgore... B-but I'm not going to! I've seen you on the cameras a f-few times, like, I saw when you gave that piece of candy to a Temmie! You didn't even ask for anything, not even money! Someone so generous d-doesn't deserve to die! I'm going to help you get home. Now, before I give you a respirator, I need to tell you about... M-Mettaton..."
It's been a while. And we've finally reached Hotland!
Looking back at my first submissions for this au, I think I've definitely gotten better at drawing scenes and writing the accompanying short stories. The older ones disgust me.

This is just a WIP of his design. I havent really settled on an eye color yet but i'll figure one out soon!
Trying to figure out how to have a sans with a broken skull in a famine au, while keeping him unique enough to be noticeably different from Horror!Sans, is uhhh.. ALLOT harder than i was anticipating tbh.
His normal eye light is actually just the white dot! It only glows colors when he's using his magic. Just like in canon.
But due to.... Events... His eye doesnt glow the same colors it used to. Thankfully, at least there's still blue in it.
Nicknames i got for him are:

This sans is a very big boi. He's still shorter than his brother. But he's over 6 ft.
He, along with everyone else in the underground, started out as their canon sizes before the Famine.
But after people began eating human flesh just to survive.. That with the combination of shattered human souls' magic saturating the underground, led to monsters physically changing.
They grew larger, and in some cases -depending on the monster's mental state- even twisting to become more monstrous.
It was like Deep Sea Gigantism. Larger bodies are able to go longer without sustenance.
Some have an easier time surviving between meals. Such as: Skeletons, because they dont need as much to maintain their bodies since they're made of bones
Monsters made of an element (fire. Ice, water. for example) because they have a wider range of "food" to them. Such as, Wood, for fire elementals. Or ice or water, for ones made of ice or water. And so on.
Of course those things cant sustain them on those things alone. Its like humans eating filler, like white rice or white bread.

These two are possible options that i like. Though im trying to avoid eyes that are too reddish in color. So the second one is iffy.
As for these two.
there's absolutely no way im gonna pick either of these to be his eye color. They're too similar to Dust and Horror's eyes.
but it was still fun to color them! so i'll show them to you guys anyways kekhu

Though im probably gonna change the shape of the crack going into his eye tbh. Ironically its NOT supposed to resemble Gaster's face cracks
Also fun fact! The fur of his jacket is actually on the Inside of the hood! So when he's wearing the hood, only a small bit of the fur peaks out from underneath!
Thinking about Faminetale.... My babies oh. They go through so much trauma.
Undyne is Not queen in this au, I decided.
In lore, She was originally, but something happened, and it caused her to no longer be able to continue ruling.
She is VERY upset about it. And even more so with each passing day as the current ruler continues to fail at their job
I havent decided it Alphys is still alive or not. If she is though, she's helping Sans hide the human souls from the current ruler- because thats just how incompetent of one they are.
Who's the ruler? Idk yet. But someone.
Also Flowey is likely also dead in this au. I love flowey, but his abilities would screw with the story im building. Ekekehe
