Kniphofia is known by the common names red hot poker, torch lilies, tritomea, or poker plants. I used to dislike them because of their resemblance to toilet brushes and their not always pleasant colors, but now I like how architectural and odd they are. Some are yellow and others are cream and brown, so they are not always red or orange and pokers in your eye. The acid greenish lime one I have is kind of cool, and matches another plant I have mixed feelings about: Phytolacca americana 'Sunny Side Up' with its big, chartreuse leaves.
