The late flowering of Kniphofia rooperi (Rooper's red-hot poker) might not be ideal for an exposed garden on wind blown Orkney, Scotland, but this year the flower spikes have so far dodged the storms. This species creates a large clump-forming, evergreen perennial which grows best in a sunny location with a fertile, moist but well-drained soil, especially over winter.

Des kniphofia

Chardon majestueux, Kniphofia Flamenco. La première année, il n'a rien donné, contrairement à ce que j'attendais. Cette année, c'était sa première floraison et il a produit six épis de fleurs. La première fleur était toute jaune, il a fallu un peu de temps pour qu'elles prennent la couleur flamme. J'espère pouvoir en admirer plus de fleurs l'année prochaine

Mighty Thistle, Kniphofia Flamenco

First year my mighty thistle did nothing which I expected, this year was it's first flowering year and it shot out 6!!! flower spikes!!!!

The first bloom was all yellow, it took a bit for them to start to get the "Flame" colouring. Hoping next year to press the flowers!
