Howdy all, please consider commissioning a candle or buying a premade one from me; my husband is Jewish, and understandably having a rough go of it right now. By supporting me and my business you can help me take some amount of stress from him as he is the primary breadwinner in our house.
If you cannot buy a candle but still want to help, my paypal and venmo are both theangryweasel.
The Art of Making Fans and Wall Scrolls
In a small workshop in Yangshuo an elder still makes fans and wall scrolls the way his family has for generations. The structure of such a fan is simple - wooden ribs and thin paper - but the painted paper is the real skill. Artists use a few ink strokes to suggest the karst hills, mist and plants. His son left for the city to study and work, showing little interest in the trade. After struggling with the crowded job market, he returned and asked to learn the craft. He now trains under his father, practicing brush control and composition. They make and sell fans and wall scrolls together while preserving the painting techniques. The father hopes this will keep the family tradition alive.

Feuilly
So I'm an idiot... You know how everyone describes Feuilly as a fan maker? For some reason that translated in my brain as "his talent and purpose in the Amis is getting people to like them and support them" rather than "he makes literal fans" until yesterday when I realized that the latter is the actual meaning. Ha. I'm dumb. But at least my dumbness is entertaining. xD
feuilly!
Canon-Feuilly:
he and all the alley cats get along because they're all just trying to get on
he'd prefer not to wear shoes where he can get away with it
there's nothing he loves more than the smell of fresh bread, even when he can't afford it because that reminds him why he works so hard
AU Feuilly:
is a jack of all trades, because when you're poor you can't always afford a plumber, or a mechanic, or a seamstress, or a barber
he keeps his fingernails longer than anyone else he knows, for various reasons
he might not be able to afford new clothes, but he always makes himself as presentable and orderly as possible; shirt and trousers ironed, shoes shined, dreads in tidy condition at all times.
