Okay, so I love going to basketball games for my high school. I get super into the games. Like hardcore. I understand that the chants are in good fun and in support but my school's fan section had a problem with getting really mean and really disrespectful to the other team. I never participated because no one deserves to be treated like that. After awhile, our fan section stopped being rude and we've been really good these past few week.
Today I was shocked by the rudeness of the other team. Not only was their fan section vicious, so was their team. Sure, they are the 4th best team in the state and we're the 40th, but that doesn't give them the right. The players made rude gestures towards our fan section. Almost started a fight with our team, and some of their players refused to shake hands after the game. I know for a fact this would not fly at my school. Our coach would bench those players so fast they wouldn't know what had happened. So maybe I'm used to coaches tolerating that behavior but I was appalled by this.
The fan section of this other school not only through insults our way whenever possible, but after the game as we were leaving the school, they went out of their way to shove students from my own school. I don't understand. We lost, why are you shoving us? Then they went home and started all this twitter beef with my school. They told us to "suck a dick," and we are "illiterate hoes" and we should "go F*** ourselves." How is this behavior tolerated by IHSA? It just blows my mind. Unfortunately, some students did retaliate, but it says a lot about our basketball team because they are encouraging students to ignore the comments.
Maybe this was because it was sectionals and whoever lost was done. Maybe it was because they are 4th in the state with 5 D1 players. Maybe it was because my team was winning the whole 3rd quarter. Regardless, the behavior is inappropriate.
Anyway, I'm done ranting. I was just super annoyed.
