Volume V: Stormlight

Only two fics have been collected in this volume, the title story Stormlight and Echo, Revenant, Targeter, Phoenix.

This volume is a sister to volume II, using the same typeset layout, the same collection of vector images, the same metallic blue end sheets, and the same book cloth for the spine (mudbath Duo). The cover is screenprinted Nepali Lokta paper (picked up at a Blick) and text paper is dotmar cream (from PaperPapers).

Finished binding another one! This is Desiderium, a fantastic re-imagining of AOT canon if Eren and Levi had joined the Survey Corps at the same time. Written by the wonderful @omnidirectionalmanoeuvregay! Gripping plot, the slooowest burn, hilarious voicing--everything about this fic is just! *chef's kiss*

Green and white for the Survey Corps colors, and gold keys for...well, you know ;D

This fic was so much fun to bind for so many reasons! Lots of firsts: first time splitting a single fic into two volumes (390k words will do that to ya!), first time doing a full-cloth case, first time hand-sewing headbands, first time I get to use my new imprint logo! I'm super pleased with the results.

Thank you so much for letting me bind your work, Wilde! I adore this fic and am soso happy to finally have it on my shelf <3

(Technically, this is an Avenger Zone anthology, but the bulk of it is ATTYPF sooooo)

Sometimes you have to hold a fic in your hands to comprehend just how freaking invested and amazing the authors are.

This monster is damn good and shared for free. I knew fic authors were amazing, but there is a mental difference between "330,000 words" and "800 pages of tiny font" It's amazing. Be sure to thank fic writers, they write full length books for fun.

This was my first Big book and there was a lot learned between my test copy (for my shelf) and these two. Following proper instructions (thank you Hollanders) makes a world of difference.

As always, thank you to all the wonderful folks in the @renegadepublishing Discord for sharing their expertise. It made this process so much smoother.

Finished up this book the other day! It took alot longer than I thought it would because I was waiting for special themed paper... that I then didn't use...

I am really proud of this one. I went really clean and simple classic style on the casing and just tried for being really good technically. I think it really is the best I've done technically so far.

This is a Critical Role Caleb Centric fic called "Remember Me in the Intervals" by @inkedinserendipity . This is one of my favorites and I have read and re-read it a few times and I was very happy to get the blessing of the author to bind this.

Hi! I just have a ficbinding question real quick - for fanart, do you prefer to print it in color or b&w? Thanks!

Tbh I haven't bound anything with fanart so I don't have any practical experience with it, but personally I'd prefer to do it in color if I ever include any.

This would be a bit of a pain of course, since I use a black+white laser printer to print my stuff. I think I'd actually go the route of printing the art with my itty bitty inkjet color printer on nice photo paper, then make the art either a separate folio if there are multiple pieces, or tip on a single sheet to a page if it's like a one-off or per chapter thing.

Both of these are methods used in printing commercial books and it will be a hell of a lot easier to do by hand than by machine. That's exciting!

I'd like to share some photos of my most recent binding, a test book I did in preparation of binding KhamanV wonderful fic, A Clear and Present Loki, part one in the SHIELD Codex series on AO3.

It's been a while since I did any case bound books, so there were a couple of small issues that will be resolved when I redo the binding.

The bookcloth is from Shepherd's, I believe, dark green in color, bought in the UK and brought over by a friend who was there to visit family and friends. The paper is silvery green decorative paper found in a local bookstore. I used the last piece of the paper for this book. It's a bit thicker than most wrapping papers, which made it easier to glue and paste on the boards.

Here you can see that a drop of glue got in between the endpapers (thin cardstock) and the half title because I forgot to place some scrap paper while casing in the book. I'll make sure to do that next time!

I also spent some time learning to sew headbands. Here I used a variegated embroidery thread in green and yellow, paired with embroidery thread in ivory, same color as the paper used for printing the textbook.

Here I didn't notice that the space left for the text block inside the case wasn't the same for top and bottom of the book. I have cut down two pieces of the board that I will use as templates to get the same spacing for the next book I do.

The book was left in the press overnight to dry and straighten out any possible warping. I will now sit back and enjoy rereading a great story, which I can't recommend enough.

I’ve started fic binding and it’s so fun!! I haven’t completed a whole project yet because like last night I made book covers and I wanted to let them dry overnight. It’s been so cool and I’ve learned how to economize like crazy. I’ll show you guys when I start finishing these projects. Anyways I absolutely couldn’t have even started without the help and support of @queercore-curriculum
