I think my villain origin story is people tagging every fandom/actor/character in a post about one fandom/actor/character.
If I was looking for Jeremy, Susan, I'd be in the goddamn Jeremy tag.
Is the fandom mad at Dan? Maybe itâs just the blogs that arenât private, but it was his birthday and no one seemed to be celebrating
Dan to all of us:
We didn't forget, we've been talking about it for weeks!
I don't think anyone is snubbing Dan, I think it's that it's the middle of summer and no one (and by no one, I mean me) can remember what day it is combined with the fact that the fandom has drifted a lot over the past year especially. Also, I think that on tumblr, at least, the blogs are more Noah-centric than Dan-centric. Anyway...life imitates art or something, but maybe Dan will go on a birthday dinner with a nice young man who only owns one blazer.
Happy birthday to Dan!
And for the rest of us, here's a great video of Dan attempting to play charades on his birthday, courtesy of abarnfullofblouses.
Never forget!!!
I donât know what is more disgusting, sam punching Dean at his lowest moment or fandom applauding it.Â
Since I joined fandom I've seen countless "Sam the sensitive one" posts and I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Not only is it obvious Dean's the more emotional one Sam is actually really awkward most of the time he has to be sympathetic. Where do you think the misconception comes from?
Stupidity. LOL ok my non-asshole answer...the narrative. The show loves to TELL us Sam is the one with more feelings, who is more compassionate, understands ppl, etc. A lot of ppl are inclined to go with what they're told & overlook what the see.
We have Dean saying âno chick flick momentsâ & telling random ppl how his brother is the one whoâs good with the ppl stuff. But then heâs the one who connects w more characters, bonds w kids, tells ppl stories abt himself to comfort them, picks up a little old ladyâs keys, offers a hand of comfort on Bennyâs granddaughterâs shoulder...the list goes on. Dean shows his compassion. Of course, he wouldnât give himself credit for it tho. He doesnât see it as a big deal bc itâs natural to him & bc like other shit, Dean just isnât one to take credit or seek a pat on the back for a job well done.
Meanwhile, weâre told Sam is the caring one...
Sam may talk a big game. Oh share your feelings, you canât keep things bottled up blah blah blah, but he sucks at the execution most of the time. He usually ends up trying to lecture Dean for his âwrongâ feelings or change his mind. And with strangers...well to be fair I pay a lot less attention to Sam so maybe some instances are escaping me, but yes, most of the time he comes off as awkward when heâs trying to talk feelings or sympathize.
Also, not that Dean hasnât been blunt & insensitive to ppl to but Sam has done it many times himself. The difference is Deanâs called out on it by both narrative & fandom. Heâs deemed the âdickâ & gruff one...but Sam does the same damn thing & heâs still billed as the sensitive loving puppy.
Itâs frankly, UNFAIR, but what else is new. Dean drew the short straw.
Another thing I have to say: I see some posts about how Dean is angry because itâs âeasierâ. Because PRETENDING to be angry is easier than showing how worried he is. And I feel like this is exactly whatâs wrong with a big part of this fandomâs view on Dean. Acting like Dean doesnât even have the right to be angry, like itâs all just pretence to hide how worried he is. But being worried doesnât make being rightfully angry impossible. His anger is as real as his worry, but that seems to be something no one (just like the characters on the show - Sam, Mary, Cas) likes to acknowledge.
Dean should always just worry, like the eternal caretaker that he is. But heaven forbid that he might be angry at people for not bothering to consider his feelings. Then we quickly have to reduce Deanâs behavior to being only worried again. Otherwise heâs just a dick, right?
I mean, how dare he be angry for having his so called family, aka Cas in this instance, not even bothering to tell him where he is for weeks while thereâs some unknown horrible fate waiting for him?
I take my shipping too seriously. Â You should probably know that about me.
