In light of the new PJO-verse / Camp Half-Blood series I want to actually. Complain a little bit. I've had this on my mind for ages and it's honestly a non-issue but. Ya know.

We have barely heard anything on Magnus Chase since Nine Tales from the Nine Worlds came out. Don't get me wrong, I know other series got published in that time (Trials of Apollo + Kane Chronicles) but, man. The last update we got on the official website was 2024, and in reference to Magnus chase said,

"Magnus Chase I am intentionally holding in reserve, not seeking a deal for that series yet, as I want to have more bandwidth available to do it justice when and if we get it placed somewhere."

Man. Understandable, though. What made me the most sad was that I couldn't find a single 10th anniversary post last year. Ten years, MCGA had been out. And not a single post about it.

I know this series is probably the least popular in the Riordanverse, but man. We don't get anything anymore. And it makes me genuinely sad sometimes, given its such a good trilogy.

I'm complaining as a diehard fan of it, so this is. Dramatic of me I know. It just sucks:(.

Appreciation

Being a One-Punch Man fan gives you an appreciation of the difference in time between creating and consuming. It is to see how painstakingly scripts are turned into sketches, watch kneaded erasers used up in their entirety, a thousand ink strokes go into moving a limb from here to there in a panel, and to hear the whirr of the scanner turning pen-and-paper into electronic art, all ready for the alchemy of editing, shading, lettering, and effects. It is to watch entire chapters deemed not quite right for all that effort, consigned to the scrapheap and to be done again.

All for something we read in five minutes.

To be a One-Punch Man fan is to appreciate that no amount of talent makes creation effortless. To appreciate that something of beauty is only attained through failings and tryings.

And hopefully, as fans, to be able to one day reread it all as a great body of work and watch all the apparently disjoint and discordant pieces form a whole.

now that the new episode has rotated in my brain for... 72ish hours give or take, I have some more ideas I'd love to share. We know the drill though, SPOILERS FOR TORD'S NEXT ADVENTURE IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET (kinda sorta).

ReDeux is a way bigger company than just Bioengineering. They deal with technology of all sorts, we just see Tord join this branch of the company. This is because I think someway, somehow, ReDeux is connected to the satellite in PowerEdd. While this doesn't connect Tord to it (I don't think bioengineering would connect to making a TV satellite whatsoever) it, to me, explains why he has a blueprint of the monster we see Tom become (iffy on whether he turns INTO it or the monster comes OUT of him) in PowerEdd in his secret room. They put Tord to figuring out the monster because its more challenging and he's definitely the ambitious type given what we see in the ep. Hence the blueprint. And, yeah, by this logic the "Red Army" is actually ReDeux but I think people are figuring that out already LMAO I also think this ↓

rough animation is going to be connected to PowerEdd as well. SPECIFICALLY Tord is one of the poor souls that Edd demolished walls of their apartment of when Eduardo sent him flying. He's in casual clothes here and, honestly, the room feels too small to be in a lab. My friend also suggested that ReDeux has something to do with the kingdom in 25ft Under The Seat, so that's something to consider. Overall I have Many thoughts and feelings about this episode and what it means. I'm on the boat that the company FUCKS him up and thats why hes so evil in The End. Thank you, until we meet again.

obviously to avoid spoilers first; i thought it was perfect. short and to the point. the animation is WONDERFUL. the expressions? perfect. everything about this HIT.

and now SPOILERS UNDERNEATH FOR THE LATEST EDDISODE / TORD'S NEXT ADVENTURE!!!

hooollyyy. i said before the episode dropped I thought he went into the city to get into some sort of engineering program. did not expect to be correct. he was clearly trying to get into companies for a job with his ideas of machinery and whatnot. kept failing. poor dude was losing sleep for sure. side note the diner comeback. i cry i actually find this so interesting. he has good intentions presumably, given there were no signs he was being berated for anything (in a "this could hurt people" sense, i would not put it past people in this universe being highly aggressive over this sorta thing LMAO)

and then theres ReDeux. I would kill to know what those notes contained. we got a vague idea obviously I WANT THE TEXT I WANNNAAA KNOWWWWUH. anyways. whatever he planned out, this bioengineering lab liked it. makes me wonder if it's got something to do with the chemicals from snogre. could be a stretch but whatevah. the fact he ends up working at a BIOENGINEERING LAB is. cannot lie it shocked me at first just because I didn't think we'd get a name to a company or something. but it makes sense. it makes SO much sense. and somehow it works for my timeline so thats fun. overall such a good fuckin ep dude. id love more just to really find out WHAT happened to get us to the end but theres so many questions for us to answer ourselves now. ohh man.

Since the artwork I'm working on is going to take a while, I thought I'd write something before the day ends.

Ten years ago my dad decided to get The Sword of Summer. He read it to my sister and me at bedtime. We switched to audiobooks and still listened to it whenever it was my turn to pick the book. Since that first night I heard it, I was obsessed.

The second I could get the next book, I did. Read it, listened to it to sleep, the works. It was one of my biggest comforts, though I never talked about it. I drew fanart rarely. But, it was always on my mind. Alex Fierro was probably a transgender awakening, honestly.

Book three comes out, the final book, and I am over the moon. Sometimes, I wish my dad and sister had never spoiled the kiss scene for me. But my joy about knowing Magnus and Alex was in any way canon? Unmatched. I vividly remember sitting in a plastic bin I called my reading spot, drinking a big bottled Starbucks iced mocha coffee, and eating bagel chips with grape jelly, reading The Ship of the Dead for a week straight. I squealed at the iconic kiss scene. I even remember when I slapped a spider with the book.

Life got worse, but I always had my comfort media. I always had Magnus Chase, a page turn or a play button away. After my dad died when I was 14? That comfort skyrocketed. I related to him a lot after that. Even now, he's probably the character I relate to the most. Hell, my name comes from him.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard shaped my personality. It showed me a new world(worlds?), it likely put the first question about gender in my mind, and it brought me comfort in the worst times of life. Even now, I know I have a safe space in that series.

I'm so, so happy I grew up reading this series. I'd probably be a completely different person if my dad hadn't bought that book ten years ago. Happy 10th anniversary to my favorite book series in the nine worlds. 💛

Currently reading the version of mapleshade's vengeance in shadows of the clans. So far I feel AWFUL for frecklewish. No wonder she flipped out when it came to light the kits were appledusk's. Mapleshade could've just lied and said the dad left or something, because frecklewish was grieving her brother so severely she was probably struggling to function. She didn't deserve any of this man :(
