End of Year Sexypedia Sexystats Report (2022 Statistics)
This is separated into two posts, one including all characters on the wiki and one only including those listed as being active in 2022. This is the latter.
These are based on data taken from 565 character’s pages from the Sexypedia Wiki, all listed as having an active fanbase in 2022. The original spreadsheet can be found here.
First Letter of Character’s Names
The most common letter for a sexyman’s name to start with is S with 55 characters/9.73%. Second is M with 48 characters/8.50%, and third is R with 34 characters/6.02%.
Number of Tropes per Sexyman
Most sexymen have between 10-12 tropes. The average number of tropes is 13.49.
The most common tropes of 2022 are Dominating (282 characters/4.35%), Distinctive Voice (281/4.33%), Power (276/4.25%), Villain (250/3.85%), Nonhuman (236/3.64%), Angst (230/3.55%), Johnlocked (224/3.45%), Intelligence (209/3.22%), Theme Song (204/3.14%), and Mysterious (173/2.67%).
Most sexymen are listed as Euclid, or “Unmistakably sexypeople, but are contained within their fandom” (234 characters/42.16%). Second is Safe, or “Characters that never quite reached widespread sexyman status in their fandom” (182 characters/32.79%). Third is Keter (82 characters/14.77%), or “Characters whose notoriety escapes beyond their fandom”. Forth is a tie between Neutralized (20 characters/3.60%), or characters who “despite fitting into the archetype [...] have almost no sexyman following whatsoever” (AKA “potential sexymen”) and Thaumiel, or characters whose “fanbase is very aware of their status - either embracing it (for example, lovingly calling them such) or trying to prevent it (posts in the general tone of ‘GOD, DON'T LET THEM BECOME THE NEXT SEXYMAN!’)”. Fifth is Archon (16 characters/2.88%), or “characters that are widely known as sexymen across the internet”, and sixth is Apollyon (1 character/0.18%), or “Once-in-a-generation phenomena”.
The majority of sexymen this year were male, with 476 characters/84.55%, 68 characters/12.08% were female, and 19 characters/3.37% were nonbinary or other.
By far the most common fanon trope is Johnlocked, or “When two characters are shipped extensively by fans despite the pairing not necessarily being canon (or even present) in the original work”, with 42 characters/18.42%. This is likely due to the introduction of fanon tropes as a separate list being fairly recent, rather than properly representing real trends within fandom.
Most Common Subverted Tropes
The most commonly subverted tropes are White Twink Humanization and Power of Love, with 11 characters/11.96% each. This is likely due to the introduction of subverted tropes as a separate list being fairly recent, rather than properly representing real trends within fandom.
Note: The numbers here may be different than listed plainly on the Sexypedia. This is because characters on the wiki are sometimes added to a category that doesn't fit or is not further described. The data here was gathered by looking at each individual character and seeing what is properly formatted and is explained as fitting the sexyman in question.
