~amira’s season so far~

okay slap my clown makeup on i guess but even after three clips i really think that season 4 of druck will be vastly different from season 4 of OG skam. i mean, obviously it has to be, but i see signs that they’re gonna fix some of the OGs worst work. like, the vibes between amira and the girl squad are just!! like worlds better!! i know it’s premature and i’m an idiot but 1200 words of halfbaked meta under the cut 

so. in OG s4, clip one goes:

sana is on the bus, she looks at all the capitalism Bull Shit, the couples on the street, boys pulling their shirts up, etc (it's like the best part of the whole season tbh bc you really see the world through her eyes in a way that i liked a lot fight me)

prayer alarm goes off and a bitch on the bus gives her the stinkeye

she rolls up late to a social gathering centered on isak and even

she has a conversation with the girls where vilde is like full TMI abt her and magnus’s sex life, sana is like "can't y'all talk about LITERALLY anything else," and the girls are like sort of affronted and act like she's a prude/weirdo

as soon as noora leaves the room they talk abt william garbage drama

but then druck s4 first clip is like:

amira looks around the beach and sees all the couples and the PDA and the revealing swimsuits, showing the distance she feels from that part of german culture, but she's surrounded by her friends rather than alone

her prayer alarm goes off and kiki is the one notices/gives her the Look, rather than a stranger, and then separately an old man on the beach is like staring her down. so she has the same feeling of being seen as an outsider but it comes from within her personal life and outside of it in two different ways, which i think is really interesting so we'll see how that turns out

she is already at the social gathering, she's an integral part of it, boys aren't even there, the couples from the last two seasons have literally left the country which i think is a good sign that this isn't going to be the "season 2&3 protagonists w/a side dish of sana" mess that OG s4 was

they still have a conversation where kiki is pulling a vilde and it's all about sex which amira can't really relate to, the same way sana couldn't, but when she says "could we talk about something besides boys" her friends are immediately like "lmao u right we're super annoying" instead of getting hostile and it's just so clearly different from the way the girl squad in OG was very like awkward silences and conditional support

mia isn't there bc she's making choices for herself and the girl squad says that they miss her but there is no relationship drama!! i am still watching that plotline like a HAWK though

i’ll be interested to see what happens with mia gone though as noora was sana’s closest ally for some parts of season 4

then clip two is pretty similar to OG, in that she's going abt her business, she's interrupted by her brother(s) being noisy, she Has Eyes abt a cute boy, she takes part in whatever dumb boy competition they're doing, and she has to be her brother's servant for the week. HOWEVER, there are some differences which i find intriguing, namely that in OG it was a larger group of guys bein dudes, whereas in druck it's literally just her two brothers and the love interest, making amira a more important part of the dynamic (again!) rather than just like "baby sister who thinks she can hang with the Big Boys lmao". also, it bumps up the "people interrupting her praying" running theme a little, which is interesting and maybe is part of showing that amira is more religious/observant than her brothers. most importantly, mohammed like purposely sabotaged her by being cute, which is a vibe that i find VERY promising.

then clip three is completely different from the OG. in OG it's just the girl squad hanging out and talking about boys (and noora's stupid boyfriend) as per usual, they bring up how they want to meet New Cute Boys, there's a weirdly lingering clip of sana's brother's abs while he works out bc the writers forget that it's her POV like every 5 seconds i swear, and the girls are all "these are perfect" and sana is all "absolutely not" but nobody listens to her! i'm not salty. i do think we'll get a moment sort of like this soon, where amira's friends meet her brothers and mohammed, but they haven't set up the BoyGroup/GirlGroup dichotomy the same way, which makes me think they won't have the competitive vibes between the boy groups that led to that stupid fight. clown makeup?

instead, we got that clip of amira helping sam with abdi problems and then kiki and carlos with apartment problems. amira is an essential part of the situation, she makes decisions, and people listen to her, which is very different from OG. you can definitely still side-eye kiki here, but she's depending on amira's arabic skills (which are directly related to her heritage & religion) etc rather than viewing them as an awkward difference to gloss over, which is also different from OG. (plus they get the apartment primarily because she's a fantastic arguer.) amira kind of shakes her head at her friends' boy problems, which is also something sana does, but she doesn't get steamrolled. there is also No Mention of The S2 Het Drama! this brings me to some very important Vibe Differences:

the whole "sana thinks about sex too!" thing that the OG harped on is missing. (and so, thank god, are all the slo-mo ab shots.) i think this is related generally to OG being a lot more overtly sexual than druck, but it's still interesting. when amira looks (wistfully?) around the beach, she's looking at couples being touchy in more of a cutesy way; the discussions abt sex are less vivid and explicit; etc. it's too early to call, but i think they're emphasizing her interest in (and disconnect from) romance a lot more.

amira is not a sidenote in group situations the way sana is. you can chalk this up to differences in their characters if you want, but she's surrounded by people who think of her as smart and essential. i def think the last clip was meant to emphasize that amira's friends depend on her and value her input. she doesn't think her friends always have great judgment abt their love lives, but she's still very much involved in them. i definitely think that there will be times when amira is disconnected from her friend group, but rather than being forgotten/ostracized (as in OG), i bet we'll see that the girl group assume that amira is okay and invulnerable and drama-free when really she isn't.

similarly, the dynamic with her brothers is really different. i have no clue how this will play out, but the OG bet scene was like "elias's friends + bonus sana" and the druck bet scene was very much "mahmood siblings + bonus mohammed." they might introduce a balloon squad later this week, idk, but if that doesn't happen at jonas's party, i doubt it'll happen at all.

in conclusion, here are the wild cards:

amira being pushed out of the friend group

extended makeout scenes between irrelevant characters

a mia/mohammed plotline

the girls assuming amira is fine when she isn't

ignorance from both her friends and the general public but in different ways

a VERY different mohammed backstory

insight into amira's relationships with her family's expectations, her religion, german culture, and the self she presents to the world

a season that's actually about amira!! blease!!

hi! i was reading your post about amira's season and i agree with most of you said, but i think 1) the fight is still happening but idk if it will be about carlos x essam x kiki or stefan x hanna x jonas, but i think the fighting is still happening... 2) I DON'T WANT TO, GOD KNOW I DON'T WANT but i think sam or kiki will kiss mohammed.. i think this season will focus alot in carlosxkiki relationship and their messy, today's clip and that shit apartament.. i think one of the girls will kiss him+

and 3) the gym scene is happening tomorrow but it will be the boxing scene and i think druck will change alot but i bet the slowmo is still happening lol

i’m wAY too lazy to make a meme right now but the prospect of a mohammed/sam kiss......one fear

i wrote out an answer to this that got way too long, so i’ll try to be short lmao. i think you’re right about a lot of things! i also think that the druck writers are pretty attentive to their audience, and it was clear what people didn’t like about sana’s season (noora’s drama taking over, sana getting sidelined, that Absolutely Hellish even backstory), so i think they’re trying to avoid those things.

however, there was so much going on in OG s4 that i suspect druck will just throw some of those plotlines out the window. combine that with the things that logically have to be different bc they’ve graduated and it’s kind of a crapshoot as to what they’ll keep, what they’ll ditch, and what they’ll change.

one thing i think we can rely on is that there’ll be conflict between amira’s school friends and her family. i definitely think you’re right that carlos and kiki will be the requisite messy hets this season; she’s secretly going through a lot, just like noora was, and he’s clearly not okay about not graduating. i would not be surprised at all if there was a fight between carlos and essam about kiki. you brought up stefan and hanna, and i can’t see the mahmood bros getting directly involved in that, but i can see it being a reason for jonas to act more like an asshole than usual. combine that with abdi maybe getting dumped by sam, and i think we’re looking at a point midseason where all three of them are destructive emotional wrecks. that’d also be a reason to give amira and matteo’s friendship some screentime, as they’d be the only respective levelheaded people in their friend groups. (david is still a mystery to me at this point tbh; he might be connected to amira’s brothers somehow, but not like even was)

anyway, a big part of the season will have to be about amira’s loved ones disliking each other and then learning to be friends, and i truly look forward to the wholesome-ass We’reAllInThisTogether.mp3 party at the end of the season. however, in the OG, there are just like. two of those? there’s sana’s moment of absolute desperation, when she overhears the pepsi max bitches in the bathroom, sees noora kiss yousef, and the fight happens, propelling her into isolating herself and posting those screenshots. eva’s birthday party wraps the boysquad conflict up, but then there are two more entire episodes that are mostly about noora and McFuckBoy, and then there’s the eid party. lichrally a nightmare.

long story short, there’s no way to match up any of those plot points directly. we can assume druck will move things around to fix that weird offset ending. plus, if kiki is the noora of the season, she’d be kissing essam rather than mohammed, and that means the timing of the fight changes, etc etc. we might still get a moment like that that fucks amira’s whole shit up, where her relationships with her friends, mohammed, and her brothers all seem like they’re in shambles, but the writers aren’t pigeonholed by what made that happen in the OG. if someone has to kiss mohammed, i could definitely see it being sam, but there are tons of other roadblocks the writers could throw at mazzouk, so there’s no reason to live in fear about that specific option, you feel?  

i’m very excited for the gym clip!! and like, it’s druck, we’re gonna get dramatic slo-mo this season, but i think it’ll be more along the lines of “mohammed flipping his hair and smiling at her” and less “amira’s brother’s abs”

TL;DR i think there are some things that have to stay the same as sana’s season, especially her two groups not getting along and then all becoming friends in the end, but i think it’s too early to say exactly how they’ll change the stuff they’re gonna change
