…i probably should’ve mentioned that i’m the one running the kurtbastian bigbang. you can start before august! i always assume people start right away, i’d hate to make them wait. check ins are optional and if you can’t find a beta i’ll waive it

Yeah, it probably all got a little confusing since there are two different bigbangs I was considering and the rules are probably different for each. And my problem isn't not being able to find a beta so much as I actually just hate having one. It's just... not a thing that works for me, but I could have someone read it through or something without much of an issue. I just have other problems, too, like... a fic I start writing in July will be canon-compliant now but by December or January will not be at all, and I'm a little weird about stuff like that. I also have no patience and hate sitting on things I finish, and I'm terrible with deadlines. Without a deadline, the fic might be done in two weeks, but once I am given a due date I will wait five months and then try to do it all the last week.

Basically, I'm a bratty child who is incapable of following rules unless I'm getting graded or paid.

I still want to sign up and contribute though, for once! So I'm going to think a bit about another fic that is so completely AU that the length of time between now and posting won't bother me as much.

a) you can always drop out if your idea doesn’t end up being 15k. b) you can start after you sign up, you don’t have to wait until august c) there aren’t many rules for a bigbang. just dates to have things done by so people can finish long fics

I don't know, they have check-ins and require a beta and stuff. And I'm not sure how the rules work in all of them, but since one of the bigbangs I was considering signing up for is being run by the person who left me that comment I assume for that one at least I wouldn't be allowed to start writing until August? It's a rule I could break and no one would know, though, haha.

Kadam prompt -- Adam doesn't like the way that some of the ND members treat Kurt.

  Adam tugs on his tie as Kurt leaves him to go get some punch - around them, the Schuester-Pillsbury wedding reception is in full swing, couples dancing and laughing on the floor, music in the background. Adam notices, a little amused, that it’s all live music performed by New Directions. He remembers Kurt mentioning once that his old teacher didn’t have many adult friends - now, Adam realizes how true that is as he looks around and mostly sees people under the age of 20.

Still, he doesn’t like being left on his own. These are all Kurt’s people, Kurt’s friends, and he has a feeling that most of them don’t much care for him. He’s already had a brief meeting with Kurt’s ex, who actually hadn’t seemed that angry or jealous - maybe hurt, but also resigned. The rest of the New Directions though, had taken his presence with a certain amount of hostility, especially Sam and Tina, who Adam only met briefly as well. Still, they’ve glared at him and Kurt over the entire course of the wedding and he’s starting to get a little tired of it, if he’s honest.

Kurt’s told him about his relationship with Blaine, and he realized when he accepted Kurt’s offer that he’d probably run into some hostility from the faction of Kurt’s friends who wanted him back with his ex, or who had sided with Blaine over the whole situation. But he knows he’s not exactly a caveman - he’s fairly charming and he’s been schmoozing enough to be a 50’s housewife at her first dinner party. It makes him feel a little annoyed that these people still hate him even though he’s done his best not to give them a reason to. It’s not Adam’sfault that Blaine cheated on Kurt, just as it’s not his fault that Kurt decided to give in to his pursuit. And how he was he supposed to resist pursuing Kurt, who’s gorgeous and talented and funny? Who can resist a combo like that?

Adam realizes that Kurt’s been taking a long time and gets up, frowning. He ignores the eyes he can feel on him and hurries to the punch table, frown deepening when he realizes Kurt is nowhere to be seen. He looks around the room and notices that Finn, Sam, Tina, and Artie have all disappeared as well and feels a sense of foreboding. He makes his way out of the reception hall and down a hallway.

He hears the voices in the distance and speeds up when he hears Kurt’s sharp tone. He knows that voice - it’s the one Kurt uses on him when he goes off-key in practice or talks during a Streisand movie. 

The voices drift off beyond a bend in the hallway and Adam pauses before he realizes he’s doing so.

“—can’t believe you actually came with that guy,” Sam was saying. “I mean, I get that you’re moving on and that’s good, but to bring him to the wedding was a bit much, right?”

“I don’t see how,” Kurt says, voice perfectly icy. Adam’s always admired Kurt’s control of his emotions, but now he’s a little concerned by it. Kurt, even at his most angry, has always had feeling about him - it’s what attracted Adam to him in the first place, all of that expressive emotion on display in his eyes, the arch of his tone. Now though he sounds flat. “Adam is my boyfriend, and I thought we were an equal oppurtunity wedding?”

“Duh,” Tina says. “It’s not that we care about, obviously. We’re just concerned.”

“You don’t need to be concerned,” Kurt says. “Adam is great and I like him.” Adam warms a little at that, despite himself. For all his expressiveness, Kurt is insanely complex about his emotional state - or, at least, talking about it. Adam’s been agonizing over whether he’s the one with more in the game for weeks.

“It’s not you,” Finn says. “It’s Blaine.”

Adam goes cold.

“You have to understand how he feels about it,” Sam says, and the worst thing is that he’s so earnest about it. “I mean, he’s still not really over you and you showing up with another guy is killing him.”

There’s a long silence. “I see,” Kurt says, that perfect ice back, stronger than ever. “So your reasoning for me not to bring my boyfriend, the person I care about very much, to a wedding full of old friends and family is because my ex - who cheated on me, by the way - might find it uncomfortable?”

Another long pause.

“Blaine’s really broken up about it—” Finn starts, and Adam’s had enough.

“You know,” he says, turning the corner, “I think I’ve heard enough about Blaine’s feelings for the night.”

All four of them turn to him - Sam, Tina and Finn shocked, but there’s relief in Kurt’s face. Then Sam’s face twists.

“This doesn’t concern you,” he says. “You don’t even know Blaine—”

Adam shrugs, strides across until he’s at Kurt’s side and takes his hand. Kurt clutches it like a lifeline. “I don’t know Blaine,” he agrees. “And he seems like a nice enough guy, so I’m sure he doesn’t know that you’re out here reprimanding Kurt for being happy.” That garners some shameful glances. “But I do know Kurt pretty well, and I know his side of this whole break-up debacle because I was there with him for some of it.”

He leans forward, glares at them. “I understand that Blaine is your friend and he’s lucky to have you. But don’t you dare tell Kurt that he “has” to understand where Blaine is coming from, that he “has” to consider Blaine’s feelings. Blaine is lucky that Kurt’s fucking talking to him right now, do you understand? If it were me, it wouldn’t matter how long we’d been together, how close we were - if someone cheated on me, they’d be out of my life forever.”

He leans back, eyes their shocked expressions. “And I know some of you have been cheated on, or been the cheater, so maybe you can sort of get where I’m coming from. Which is why it absolutely shocks me that  you’re telling Kurt to be considerate of Blaine’s feelings. You should be able to understand how he feels and even if you don’t, you should at least extend the courtesy of minding your own damn business.”

He stares at them. They’re all guilt now, shuffling their feet, eyeing each other. Adam nods to himself, satisfied with their reaction, still a little coldly furious at the way that they’d treated and talked to a man who was becoming very important to him.

When he turns to Kurt, Kurt’s watching him like he just hung the moon. Adam could get used to that kind of look.

He pulls Kurt close and, ignoring the gawking group behind them, presses a kiss to his forehead. “Come on,” he says. “I’ve got a dance with your name on it.”

Sam and Tina were chosen because they’re Blaine’s BFFs now and Finn because I feel like he’d come over to Blaine’s side a little through sheer contact and probably a kind of empathy even though he’s Kurt’s brother.
