Uh, easily.

Sebastian had no societal obligation to be even remotely nice to Kurt, they were rivals in show choir and for Blaine, not to mention that for every insult Sebastian threw at Kurt, Kurt threw one back. He never seemed hurt by the insult just annoyed which added to Sebastian's lack of realization that his words could hurt people (until Karofsky).

Blaine was Kurt's boyfriend and the expectations that come with that are to be nice, caring, and loving. Blaine tries to force Kurt to have their first time in the back of his car in the parking lot of a bar, despite knowing that Kurt wanted it to be special and romantic. He then yells at Kurt for not being 'Spontaneous and Fun', which yeah he was drunk but that doesn't give him an excuse. He later cheats on, fully cheats on not just the texting thing, on Kurt and tries to blame it on Kurt not being there for him.

Sebastian may have been mean to Kurt but he apologizes and plans to be better, unlike main cast characters we don't see much of that since he's not on screen that often but he is present for the proposal and seems at least civil with the New Directions.

See the idea behind the argument against Kurtbastian is that because Sebastian was mean, something he acknowledged, apologizes for, and promises to improve upon, means that he cannot in any way be shipped with Kurt.

Yet the man that tried to force himself onto him in the back of a car, cheated on him, blamed him for said cheating, tried to guilt him when he made improvements on himself, tried to control who he could be friends with, is considered his soulmate???

Yeah something isn't adding up.

The beauty of glee fanfiction is being able to give the characters consistent growth that they weren't given in the show. Allowing characters to learn from their mistakes and prior prejudices and grow from the insecure and ignorant teens we first meet them as.

It's being able to give them depth and explore beyond the stereotypes that they represent.

Would have been funny if Sebastian was interested in Kurt since the rest of the Warblers are obsessed with Blaine and he's just like, "that guy? Him? When an absolute angel right next to him?!?"

Like the dude lived in Paris, he may not like fashion but he knows a bit by osmosis. He'd know enough to have a decent conversation with Kurt. Enough to get his attention, (wearing fashion disasters because even negative attention is attention - popping his collar so Kurt will fix it 👀👀)

Kurt has the awkward reaction of never having had anyone like him first (excluding Mercedes but you know) so he like almost doesn't know what to do about it. Could even move the "cheating" plot to earlier and have it be Sebastian instead of Chandler. [Would be really funny if their texts were family friendly and platonic but written in French so Blaine assumes the worst]

Look I want my fashionista boy to have more love interests, Kurt deserves it.

Kurtbastian AU where Kurt breaks up with Blaine in The First Time (in my head it's him discovering the 'lose your virginity to be a better actor thing' after Scandals but before they do it, since both Rachel and Blaine were told the advice and prior to that advice Blaine didn't seem in any hurry. Add in a not being able to trust a drunk Blaine.) The scene in my head is Kurt overhearing Rachel and Blaine talking about it when he goes to wish Blaine good luck before opening night, leading to him running away in tears as he pieces things together. (He wanted it to be special so to find out it was for the play would break his heart/trust)

This of course causes Sebastian to pivot his attention because now Blaine is whining about losing Kurt and Sebastian gets bored/annoyed.

But he continues to frequent the Lima Bean and can't put his finger on why until he sees Kurt there, having gained some of his old confidence back and frankly looking really good. (Bonus if he becomes a Cheerio again)

This divergence of the timeline is of course to have the parallel of Kurt Has Never Had Sex Hummel date Sebastian Has Never Had A Boyfriend Smythe. [Not sure if I want it to be a Slow Burn or not, I keep toying with it]

Added Bonuses to this AU - Sebtana Friendship also known as Mean Gays That Judge Everyone Else + A Beautiful Duet Pair, a proper return of Kurt's fashion ambitions, the glee club worrying that Sebastian is Jesse St. James 2.0 but gay, Sebastian getting to truly be the male Santana, the Warblers gaining personality outside of obsessing over Blaine. (They did great without him), Platonic Hevans (Let Kurt have one straight guy friend that didn't bully him before)

Things that are removed at the moment because I don't know how to fit them in yet: The Rock Salt Slushy (I still wanna keep the Smooth Criminal duet but don't know how), Blackmailing Finn, essentially I don't know how to keep the season's conflict with taking Sebastian out of being the antagonist, I don't wanna just add a new antagonist.

Miscellaneous info on AU: Sebastian being a senior, he nearly had to retake a year due to transferring from the French education system (they have three year highschool not 4), I like him being a Photographer (read/loved Cruel Intentions)

[I firmly believe that a lot of their animosity was exacerbated by their competing for Blaine. Also Kurt felt more in character when taunting Sebastian - I miss Season 1 Kurt]
