I would love to be in this network because I love to fangirl over things. Somethings I fangirl over are british youtubers, Damon Salvatore. Draco Malfoy (A.K.A. Tom felton) Rupert Grint and Liam payne.
What I like doesn't change who I am.
I will always be the person I am. Fandom is just an extension and expression of the person I am. I am not suddenly going to be fundamentally a new person just because of what I like. In fact, it is because I am the person that I am that I like these things. Yet, people seem to think that is the case. In spite of knowing me for long periods of time, some of the people I thought closest to me have turned out to be the most close minded. Friendship is about acceptance of each other. Sure we tease and joke, well meaning ribbing is also part of it.
What makes zero sense is disdain. In the past year I’ve gotten into three pretty distinct fandoms. Each time facing some form of judgement from people, even though they’ve known me. It is something I can accept from those who don’t, but it actually stings from so-called friends.
I faced it for being “too old to like Adventure Time and Regular show”. Again for being into “Shitty Japanese Power Rangers”. Finally now for “Being a Hamsteak”. As if the process of liking these things has revealed me to be some immature monster. I won’t apologize for liking the things I do, or event talking about them. I don’t expect you to like the things I do, it’s your freedom to enjoy and dislike things. What I expect is friends acting like friends and not hating on me because my choice in cartoon, comic, or television program ~ just as I don’t hate on any of you for yours.
