Urgent BETAreader/bookworm help needed:
I’m looking for a BETA READER for my YA Fantasy/Romance manuscript. I’ve worked with 2 Critique partners to clean up the grammar/simple mistakes, as well as clean up the plot progression.
What I’m looking for in a BETA reader is someone simply read the work, and give me their true opinions of the work. This can be done in a few paragraphs, but answering a set of questions, through comments (on the doc), or in any other way YOU decide. Seriously. All I want from you is your opinion as a reader. And feel free to take your time: there’s no time limit/comment limit.
What I’d be willing to do in exchange: if you have your own WIP (wether that be an essay, a manuscript, a set of fanfics, ANYTHING), I would love to BETA read or line edit them for you. I can go as far as looking for typos and giving you detailed edits, or simply read over the work and tell you my own opinion. (if it’s a fanfic, I’m familiar with quite a few YAbook fandoms, DC comics, and most pop culture fandoms (starwars, Marvel, etc;)).
If you’re wondering what my manuscript is about, I’ve linked the first chapter below as well as my literary query (a summary used to attract agents). Also, here’s a quick plot summary:
As the daughter of the revered Commander, seventeen-year-old Yalvena Mikolova is destined to be a general...so long as she stays under her father's control.
Raised as a soldier in the Windless Valleys of Belrav where she’s separated from her people, the Wanderers, and their ostracizing wind magic, Yal trains to help her father eradicate magic and become a general.
When a princess is assassinated on her watch and jeopardizes her chances of becoming a general, Yal’s father sends her to catch the assassin with (and spy on) a group of witches versed in magic, composed of a giggly enchantress, a cowardly prince, and Kan: an (annoyingly) handsome witch known for setting soldiers like Yal a-flame.
Yal’s plans of sabotage fade away as she works with the group and learns that the witches haven't come to poison Belrav, but to restore safe magic in the kingdom-a fate that would empower the Wanderers, but risk her father’s loyalty and her future as general.
To summarise: The daughter, a witch hating soldier is sent to work with a group of witches to catch an assasin!
Some of the tropes it has: classic knife to the throat enemies+lovers, found family, badass female characters (that can still be feminine, and caring), swords and sorcery, classic witches with cauldrons and potions! As well as a diverse cast of characters.
Minor tw for gore, but nothing more than you’d see in an average YA fantasy book. If you can go for something like ACOTAR, SaB, or Dance of Thieves, you’ll be good here!
