Teenage Dream (Joyce/Hopper)

Summary: Joyce and Hopper smoke and catch up after high school. (Commission for @fanficsandfluff! Here’s my commission info. Also, this one got a little angsty, apologies. Content warning for marijuana use.)

It was a few years after high school, but Joyce and Hopper were still close.

Neither of them had strayed far from Hawkins; Joyce had a job in town, and Hopper was training to join the police force locally, leaving them plenty of time to hang out, now with the freedom of adulthood.

Hopper got an apartment that was just a block away from Joyce’s apartment, so it wasn’t uncommon for her to head over there after work.

“Are you sure we can smoke in here?” she asked, nervously eyeing the front door to the apartment, knowing Jim’s landlady lived right across the hall.

He chuckled. “Please, she’s practically senile. Besides, whatever brand of cigs she’s smoking stink up the whole floor, so she’s got no room to talk.”

Joyce allowed herself to laugh softly at that, and she relaxed against his beat up couch, after shedding her work vest and boots so she could get truly comfortable. Hopper sat down beside her, having just finished rolling them a joint, and he passed it to her with a smirk.

“First hit for my guest,” he offered.

She rolled her eyes. “So polite,” she replied, taking the joint and pulling out her lighter from the pocket of her jeans. She took a generous drag before pulling back, passing it to Hopper as she held the smoke in her lungs before blowing it out, only giving one light cough.

“So, how’s the hardware store treatin’ you?” he asked before taking his own hit.

Joyce shrugged. “It’s alright. I mostly just stock shelves and work the register, so it’s pretty easy. What about you, mister policeman? How’s the academy?”

Hopper blew out his smoke, giving a content sigh as the first wave of relaxation came over him. “It’s fine. A fuckin’ pain in the ass, I won’t lie. But I’m the best shot in my class, so I’ve got bragging rights over the other guys,” he grinned.

Joyce laughed. “Of course that’s what you care about,” she said, but her tone was fond.

Hopper just shrugged, but his eyes were twinkling with the same child-like mischief she remembered from high school, when the two of them smoked under the bleachers and ran from teachers.

There wasn’t much small talk to be had, since they had long since achieved a level of comfortable silence with one another. Hopper got up to put on a record, and Joyce hummed along to the familiar song.

The joint passed back and forth until there was nothing left to smoke, and the conversation reached an uproar again.

“And Bob the Brain is at college out of state,” Hopper said. “Something to do with radios, I think.”

“His name is just Bob, yknow,” Joyce scolded. “Aren’t we too old for stupid nicknames?”

Hopper grinned. “Not at all.”

Joyce scoffed and gave him a punch to the shoulder, making him gasp in mock-offense. “Jeez, I didn’t realize you were in love with Newby,” he teased.

Joyce’s cheeks turned pink, and she glared at him. “I am not! I just don’t think he deserves all the shit you give him. He’s nice.”

Hopper laughed. “No, you’re right, Bob’s nice. You have way worse taste in guys. Who’s the one you’ve got your eye on? Byers?”

Joyce avoided his eye. “Yeah, Lonnie Byers.”

Hopper saw the way her demeanor changed and figured it was best to not pick on her too harshly for it. Still, though, he couldn’t resist seeing her blush again. “And how’s that going, hm?”

Joyce shrugged. “He comes into the store sometimes.”

“And?”

“And that’s it! Jeez, Hopper, I didn’t realize you were so obsessed with who I’m seeing,” she said, but there was no bite in her tone. “Didn’t you mention a girl last time? Diane?”

Now, it’s Hopper’s turn to blush, and he clears his throat. “Yeah, I might have mentioned her.”

Joyce lights up like a goddamn Christmas tree. “Jim Hopper, are you blushing right now?” she asked.

“No!” he replied, but he could feel the color burning on his face. 

“Oh, you absolutely are. This is too good,” she teased, scooting closer to him on the couch. “Tell me about her!”

Hopper groaned, burying his face in his hands.

Joyce giggled. “Oh, c’mon Hop!” she whined, jabbing her fingers into his side.

Hopper twitched away from the touch with a sharp intake of air, and Joyce’s brown eyes went wide.

“No fucking way,” she said. “You’re ticklish?”

“No,” Hopper replied, but the way he scooted away from her on the couch said otherwise.

She pounced. He had no chance, even though he was bigger and stronger, he would never want to get rough with her, and even so, the weed had left him pliant and giggly, so her hands barely needed to touch his sides for him to start laughing.

“This is gold,” Joyce breathed, mostly to herself.

She scribbled her blunt nails against the thin material of his t-shirt, and Hopper wriggled beneath her, unable to stop the stream of laughter that poured from his mouth.

“How did I never know this? How many years have we been friends, and you didn’t tell me?”

Hopper’s laugh rose in pitch when she switched to his stomach. “It never came up in conversation,” he replied, giggles lacing his words.

Joyce grinned. “Not a good enough excuse, Hop. I’m your best friend, I deserve to know these things!”

She used both hands to attack his stomach, then moved to explore his ribs, hips, and neck, too.

“Joyce, please—”

“No begging is getting you out of this.”

Why was Joyce so good at this? Hopper hadn’t been tickled in years and the weed in his system had to be heightening his sensitivity, because he didn’t remember being this sensitive. It was unbearable, but strangely fun at the same time.

When hands prodded their way beneath his arms, he snorted, something Joyce knew he did when he laughed too hard, but apparently it was twice as funny when the laughter came from tickling, because Joyce dissolved into her own fit of laughter, nearly tumbling off of his lap and onto the floor, until he caught her by the forearms and pulled her into his chest.

They both caught their breath there, pressed against each other on his ratty old couch, and something shifted.

They weren’t just friends. They never had been. But it felt too late to acknowledge it, then. Even stoned out of their minds and breathless from laughter, they knew that. There was Lonnie. Diane. And life was moving on.

Joyce moved off of his laugh, still grinning, and Hopper felt his heart sink at the loss of contact.

He wished it weren’t too late.

Small little cute update...

Howdy, y'all

As you've probably guessed by now by my increasing inactivity, I haven't been much on the fanfic-y, tickly side of tumblr as of late. I have been pretty active on my main (@a-tall-hobbit give her a follow if you wanna), because all I can do between school, work, rehearsal, and TikTok watching is reblog a few goodies over here.

The main point of this post is to say that I am more likely than not NOT going to be participating in Tickletober this year. And honestly it's not looking so good for Squealing Santa, either (which is killing me bc I've been doing those since like 2014 or whenever they started).

I'm hoping one day my writing urge will flood back to me and crash into me and wet me with dialogue and description. But until then, thank you so much for all you new people still following my inactive ass; and all you friends who I see reblogging my old fics and drabbles every day; and all of you old friends who are still here listening to me rant and who may still reach out and love me. I love you, too.

This ain't no goodbye, hell no! I'm still here. Please please if anyone ever needs to talk to someone or even just to catch up or shoot the breeze or if you want to come out of the woodwork and introduce yourself to me... I'm still here! I'll answer! It might take me within 24 hours or something, but I promise I'll answer.

- he's seriously THE MOST ticklish person ever

-like 1 poke turns him into a giggly mess

-he's the type of person to giggle before he's even touched

-he only lets certain people touch him, but he loves when they do

-teasing makes him SUPER flustered

-his laugh is super bubbly & high pitched

-he loves making Emma laugh & will always attack her when she's least expecting it

-he'll focus on covering his face/trying to hide his laugh rather than than trying to protect himself

-his laughter is high pitched & free flowing. He doesn't really try to hold it back because he knows he wouldn't be able to

-his worst spots are ribs, thighs & knees

-if he thinks someone's gonna tickle him he starts backing away & going "ok ok okokokok"

-he gets sort an excited twinkle in his eye & a hint of a smile but if someone tries to point it out he cuts them off by saying "it's fear!"

-he's a decent ler, although he's usually a lee just cause he's not too confident in initiating it(plus if they retaliate he's fucked)

-he has long & nimble fingers that can work & reach smaller spaces so you can't escape

-she will FIGHT YOU

-seriously, she just can't help it. She's too ticklish for her own good.

-her neck & ears are her worst spots

-she will melt if you gently scratch her back, it just makes her feel really good & she'll giggle a lot, it's adorable

-if you squeeze her knees she will snort so loud! Paul thinks it's the best sound ever & teases her by calling her "Miss Piggy"

-she WILL get her revenge. It may not always be right away, but she will strike

-thanks to her being so small she's also really fast so she can switch to multiple spots easily

-she is the queen of teasing, she can make anyone flustered & blushy

-she likes to joke around with whoever she's tickling like if they make a funny noise she'll mock it or laugh along with them or even make silly faces to make them laugh more!

-one of her favorite tactics is to count ribs & loose track half way through & starting over

-my sweet precious boy

-if it weren't for Paul, he'd be the most ticklish one(so he's thankful for that)

-he always looses tickle fights

-his laughter is softer unless you get his stomach or underarms, then he has really loud belly laughter

-he doesn't really mind being tickled. He thinks it's fun & good for bonding

-he used to always attack Alice when she was little but doesn't anymore since she's grown up & he feels like they've grown apart

-even if he doesn't like Deb, he still let it slip to her that Alice is ticklish because he thinks his daughter needs a good laugh

-she's not the most ticklish but is definitely pretty sensitive

-she also doesn't mind it cause she just craves physical affection

-one time when Sam didn't skip cuddle night, they were watching a movie in bed & she was wrapped in his arms & he kept drawing circles over her stomach. She'd try not to laugh but she just couldn't hold it in anymore & burst out laughing.

-Sam knew exactly what he was doing but acted oblivious even as he pinned her down & attacked her

-she's a pretty ruthless ler tho, so you better watch out or else you'll get #wrekt

-this fuckin' garbage boy talks such a big game but if you even wiggle your fingers at him he will freak out

-like he'll slap a table, scream "NO" & try to run away

-which is why you gotta take him by surprise

-he can't even fight back cause he's too busy flailing around uselessly to do anything or he just curls up in a ball

-he can get pretty creative with insults while he's being tickled, which just makes it even FUNNIER

-since he's such an asshole, everyone always tickles him to make him shut up or apologize or just because he deserves it(& let's be real he really does deserve to be put in his place)

-don't be fooled tho he is THE BIGGEST ler

-he will attack any of his unsuspecting friends for no reason

-he just thinks it's fun to do it

-when he found out Charlotte was ticklish he was so freaking happy

-on the contrary, when she found out he was ticklish too he was absolutely mortified(not really but he'll act like he was. He's a dramatic bastard)

Omgggggg Sam’s feet are already pretty ticklish but Sam’s toes are a solid 9/10. You can get him to cry, beg, plead, giggle, cackle, anything you want if you tickle them just right. Dean used to wrap his arm around Sam’s ankles and just sit there and teasingly tickle him while he would watch tv or try to distract Sam from homework, he always used the toes as a threat and a grand finale
