sometimes I think about the fact that there's a song named after a tarot card on "Fangs!" (Magician Reversed) and that it's a card often associated with treachery and betrayal (kind of a theme of the record, feels like)

and I think about the context of that record within their catalog and how toxic the entire culture of Christian rock and youth groups etc was at the time (and probably isn't much better now)

and how much that record -- and their independent stuff afterward, and their entire catalog tbh -- was a lifeline for me as I was growing up in that culture, because it WASN'T like any of that

no wonder I cry my goddamn eyes out whenever I listen to it.

(maybe someday I'll have it in me to write about that.)
