DELIVERY = SUCCESS!

Hi everyone!

First off, I want to apologize for being so quiet. If you follow me on Twitter (@egglasses) you’ll have a better idea of what’s been happening, but to summarize: school got really busy and once I finished putting together the gift, I and the Hannibal crew had to play a bit of email tag to get the delivery details sorted out. But! I come bearing wonderful news!

THE FANNIBAL GIFT HAS BEEN DELIVERED!!!

Here’s what happened: Loretta directed me to Danny Fredericks, Bryan’s personal assistant, and we figured out a time & place to meet. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit the set, and Bryan’s back in LA now working hard on writing the next half of season 2. Nevertheless, I met up with Danny and it was amazing! He is a really nice guy and just as much a Fannibal as the rest of us.

We met at a coffeeshop and sat down to discuss some Hannibal-related things. I showed him the recipe box and explained how I came up with the idea, how all the Fannibals sent their cards in, how the cast/crew could take their individual cards home, etc. He seemed really impressed and happy with it! He kept saying that it was really cool, amazing, etc. He also said that everyone would really love it and it would help lift their spirits a lot.

After that we talked a bit about season 2 and how awesome it’s going to be, and – he showed me a bunch of behind-the-scenes photos!! Ahh!! Nothing too spoilery, mostly set construction and fake limbs, but it was really cool! He kept hinting that season 2 is going to be even gorier and more powerful than season 1. I’m so excited! He also explained that he’s the guy in charge of stockpiling & organizing the photos that Bryan livetweets during the episodes, so we really have him to thank for all of the amazing eye candy we get to see!

Since Bryan is in LA, it might take a little while for him to see the gift, but Danny assured me that he’d do his best to get pictures/proof showing the cast & crew with the cards. He also said that they all have these collage walls in their trailers with fanart, letters, etc, which I thought was really cute and awesome. Apparently they have a similar wall at the office too!

My brain is still a bit fuzzy because I’m so happy and excited, but suffice to say, it was amazing to meet Danny and talk to him about Hannibal and the relationship between the fans & the creators. It’s clear that the cast and crew really appreciate all of the fans and they treasure the relationships they’ve cultivated with everyone.

I’ve been blown away by the kindness and generosity shown to me by not only Danny, but also Loretta, Bryan, and most especially all of you guys! Without the Fannibals I would never have gotten the strength or courage to attempt this project. I’ve learned a lot and I hope to do more gift projects in the future. Thank you to every single person who sent in a card, offered their support, put up with my slowness, and generally was just an amazing friend to this silly fangirl. I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I receive info about post-delivery shenanigans, so stay tuned!

Let’s all continue to support Hannibal and all the wonderful people behind it! Thank you again for all your support, and don’t forget to Eat the Rude!

Hey everyone! It seems we've had a slight size issue with the old template. Cards sent in using the old template as a base are slightly smaller than they should be - this is an error on my part, and I really apologize!

I've made this new template from a scan of a 4"x6" recipe card (one that came with the box) so, if you use this as your base, it should turn out to be the correct dimensions. Feel free to erase the lines/grey colour and replace it with your message - but please use the "Recipe For:" and "Ingredients/Directions:" lines as indicated in the Info post! Please spread the word about this change, as it's integral to the project's success!

If you've submitted a card using the previous templates, I'll be emailing you about this issue. Once again, I sincerely apologize for the trouble!

ADDENDUM: Emails!

Hello everyone! First of all, woah! I did not expect the word to spread so quickly. Thank you all for sharing and being so enthusiastic about this project! <3 You all get a bagful of people cookies :D

Now, an addendum: When sending the email about your card, please let me know if you are sending a snail mail card as well or if you would like me to print your card for you. In other words, please clearly label the email as TO PRINT if you need it printed, or SNAIL MAIL if you'll be mailing me a physical card.

I'll be adding this info to the main post, but I'd also really appreciate it if you could spread the word. Thanks everyone! I'm really excited to see all of your designs!

CALLING ALL FANNIBALS! Fannibal Gift Project Info & Guidelines

    Would you like to express your love and passion for the Hannibal TV series in a tangible way? Would you like the cast & crew of the show to read your heartfelt words and admire your brilliant artwork? Would you sleep better at night knowing Bryan Fuller has seen your pleas to save Will Graham? If you answered yes to any of the above, keep reading!

i. THE IDEA

In an interview with Kevin Pollack, Bryan Fuller stated that Hannibal Season 2 will begin production on September 10th in Toronto. As a Fannibal living in Toronto, I want to make use of my proximity to the production to allow international Fannibals to show their appreciation for the hard work of the cast & crew. So I came up with a plan: let’s make a gift and give it to them directly!

ii. THE GIFT

What kind of gift could possibly combine international fan participation and the delicious themes of Hannibal? Well, I thought long and hard, and I came up with... 

...a recipe box!

 Here’s the plan: We’ll fill up the box with “recipe cards” addressed to the cast and crew! Each card will be a personalized letter which you can fillwith love, appreciation, and desperate pleas to break Will Graham out of jail. (I’m looking at you, Freddie. The roadtrip for justice will prevail!) The cards must follow this template to ensure they fit into the box (see guidelines below):

  EDIT: It seems that the original template is coming out a little bit smaller than intended. Please use this new template when creating your cards! The new template is the correct dimensions and, when opened in Photoshop/Microsoft Word/etc, it should give you the right size for your card. I’ve made this new template from a scan of a 4” x 6” recipe card (one that came with the box) so, if you use this as your base, it should turn out to be the correct dimensions. Feel free to erase the lines/grey colour and replace it with your message - but please use the “Recipe For:” and “Ingredients/Directions:” lines as indicated above! Please spread the word about this change, as it’s integral to the project’s success!

EDIT EDIT: These templates will be the death of me! The images in this post seem to have been resized to be much smaller than the originals. I have come up with an interim solution, which you can find <<<HERE>>>. If you have any questions or need any help, please let me know and I'll do everything I can to assist you!

As you can see, the recipe name will be where you write the name of the cast/crew member your card is addressed to; the ingredients/directions will be where you put your message. Again, please see the guidelines below for more info. Be as creative as you like! You can write a message, but you can also include some artwork, an actual recipe, some cannibal puns, etcetera – just make sure you follow the content guidelines. Feel free to fill up both the front and the back of the card! See here for some examples.

  iii. HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE

If you’d like to take part in this project – awesome! You can choose to use snail mail or email to deliver your finished card (please see below for instructions). Once all the cards are delivered, I will assemble them inside the recipe box, wrap the box up in pretty paper, and deliver it! The date by which I must receive your card is September 20th. If you are physically mailing your card, please make sure to send it with ample time for delivery. Now, onto the instructions!

3. Please send an electronic copy of your card to [email protected]. You can do this by typing up your message, taking a high-resolution photo, or scanning the card at a high resolution (think ~300dpi/72ppi). This is my way of keeping track of the cards that have been sent – so, if your card somehow gets lost in the mail,  I will have a backup to print out and use. Please be sure to include images of the front and back sides of your card!

  If you are sending your recipe card via Email:

1. . Following the template’s size guidelines (4 inches tall by 6 inches wide/10.16cm tall by 15.24cm wide), create your card on the computer or create it entirely by hand and then scan it to create a digital version. Be creative! Make sure to clearly label the card with the cast or crew member it is addressed to (see the guidelines below).

2. Save the file as a .jpg or .png at high resolution. This is very important - if it’s a different format I may not be able to open it/it may not look the way you want it to when printed. Please make sure the file is at a high resolution (think 300dpi/72ppi) so the image is of good quality – this is to avoid pixelation and other errors during printing.

3. Send an email to [email protected] with the file attached (not in the body of the message itself, only as an attachment).

4. I will print the card out for you. Please note that, due to financial restrictions, I can only print on regular printer paper - so if you want to use fancier cardstock/etc, please choose the snail mail option. Once again, make sure to use the resolution listed so the card is as high-quality as possible.

  iv. RULES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Please read these guidelines very carefully. If you do not follow the guidelines, I may not be able to include your card in the gift, and that would be a shame.

1.     All submissions must follow the template size exactly. Anything larger will not fit in the box; anything small will look out of place. Please make sure your card is 4 inches tall by 6 inches wide/10.16cm tall by 15.24cm wide.

2.     Please do not use ultra-thick paper. Regular lined/printer paper, cardstock, or construction paper is fine; cardboard is not. This is to ensure there is enough room in the box for everyone’s cards.

3.     Decorate your card however you like, but please do not include large 3D objects. Flat objects such as coins or magazine cutouts are fine, but please make sure to adhere them carefully to ensure they don’t fall off while moving! Please do not include real flowers, even dried ones, in the interests of cleanliness and potential allergies. Similarly, please do not use perfumed paper.

4.     Please do not include any inappropriate material. This includes threats, sexually explicit material, or generally rude statements. You may include some gore in your art, but please respect the fact that not everyone is comfortable with such things. Keep in mind how Dr. Lecter feels about rudeness!

5.     Please use the correct name when addressing your card. The cards are going to be arranged alphabetically by first name. If you would like to write to the entire cast or crew, please use “All Cast” or “All Crew” or, if you wish to address your card to everyone, please use “Everyone”. Additionally, please address your card appropriately – a card marked “Everyone”, for example, should not be focused completely on Hugh Dancy, and vice versa. This is to prevent hurt feelings and a general sense of rejection.

6.     Each participant may write 1 (ONE) card to up to 5 (FIVE) DIFFERENT cast/crew members. This limit is to ensure there is room in the box for all the submissions. If we meet the deadline and have extra space, I will accept additional submissions (these would be accepted via email only, in the interest of time constraints). If you use the “All Cast”, “All Crew”, or “Everyone” label, you may also write cards to individuals – but the number of cards you can send is still limited to 5 in total.

7.     Please do not mail any gifts other than the recipe cards. While it would be great to give the cast & crew some food, larger letters, plushies, etcetera, that is not the purpose of this project. If all goes well,  I’d love to arrange a larger gift project in the future. Remember that the cast & crew will likely be flying home at some point, and larger objects can make this a difficult and stressful process. If you do mail objects other than the cards, I cannot vouch for their safety or delivery – and, while I’d love to have a house full of flower crowns, they would clash terribly with my interior design. 

v. THE DEADLINE

The date by which I must receive your card is September 20th. If your card arrives after this date, I cannot add it to the project. I understand that this is a relatively short period for mailing, but I would like to get the gift to the Hannibal cast & crew sooner rather than later (this would also give us time to potentially organize another gift project before Season 2 production wraps). After September 20th I will finish assembling & wrapping the gift and will deliver it directly to a Hannibal staff member (possibly Bryan Fuller? I’ll need your help with this part when we come to it, Fannibals! <3).

  vi. LOOSE ENDS
