I'd just like to put it out there that Kishimoto HIMSELF has stated that if there was anyone in the world Sasuke could do no evil to, it would be Sakura. And why is that? It's because despite how much Sasuke wants to destroy all emotion and head towards the path of revenge, Sakura is essentially his humanity lost. She represents love and tenderness for him, and he understands that very well. In the series, you never see him physically harm her. He basically puts her out of harm's way, all the while trying to push her away from him trying to make her understand that he doesn't want to be saved. SasuSaku haters can argue a lot of things and I get that. A huge part of their relationship is flawed and dysfunctional, but you must be able to take facts as facts and the truth of the matter is that Kishimoto didn't just put Sakura and Sasuke together on a whim. He didn't do it on a whim for Hinata and Naruto either. These were all very carefully plotted out in his head and, though fans were teased left and right over various pairings, he only had these end goals in mind. Sasuke ending up with Sakura wasn't a last minute decision. Kishimoto has stated that she is essentially the light that he does not have anymore. She represents all that he lost and cannot bear to lose anymore. That is why they are together. He cherishes what feelings she has for him because they simply exist and do not ask for anything in return, and Sasuke very clearly understands that as a fact.
