It had been a particularly emotional night. The last of their test subjects had died, bringing them back to square one as far as the vaccine went. Months of work seemed fruitless and she had called it a night, leaving the poor, dead rat in his cage to be properly put to rest the following morning.
And then there was what she was going to call ‘everything’ with Clint, because she wasn’t entirely sure of how to put all of that into words.
Bobbi was especially careful with her coffee rations, but today was the day she decided she really needed that pick-me-up to get her ready for a day in the lab. She strolled down, large travel mug in hand to keep her liquid solace warm and secure. The machines that were always powered down at the end of the night were all on, so she assumed Sue had already been down, though she wasn’t inside now. Bobbi set down her three-quarters finished coffee, and snapped on some gloves so that she could take care of the little brown rat in the small room where they kept their active test subjects.
She pushed open the door and yelped in surprise when she saw the rat drinking from the water bottle that hung on the side of the cage. “Sue?” She called out.
