Disneyland - art by Alex Maher
I need to share something interesting I recently learned.
In the 80's, Fantasyland, the area themed around fairy tales and Disney animated movies in Disneyland, was retooled. Instead of looking like a Medieval fair, it became a cozy Bavarian village.
But here's the thing. I recently learned by this video that one of the many inspirations used was the Tower of London, and more specifically, the village of workers that existed within its walls.
Some castles during Feudal times had almost small villages inside its walls on the outer baileys where the people who worked and maintained the castle lived.
So, in Disneyland California, Fantasyland is meant to be a fairy tale village within the walls of Sleeping Beauty Castle. You can see the castle walls extending behind the facades of the attractions
