Have you ever had one of those moments when a collaborating turns into something surreal.
This happened to me at this years Imagine Music and Arts Festival.
It was midnight, the full blood moon was out, we'd just wrapped up a beach fire show, I'd stripped away my armor, the cold air on my skin making me shiver, but the smell of the fire still clung to the air as I sliped on the white dress I'd made for the occasion, and waited my turn to go up onto the perfomance platform.
In line behind other performers dotting the waters edge, the moment already felt spectral. Our white and gold outfits drifting around us, clinging to our cold forms, speckled in moonlight and ocean spray as the crowds formed into a singular shifting mass of warm whispers and laughter.
Then it was my turn.
Stepping onto that platform, barefoot and exposed to the west coast winds of Orcas Islands, I began my dance to the song Fjörgyn by @NordligeRúnaskog from their album Osi and the Jupiter. (I highly recommend listening to their work.)
What I felt in the moment is hard to put into words, but it felt like time and space bled for a moment and I felt my soul adrift with the movements of those who had danced before me, and with those who would dance long after I was gone.
We as humans are all connected, and I felt it so much in the moment, exposed to those cold winds and warm souls.
It's a memory I feel so fortunate to possess, and I'm so very grateful to those who made it happen.
A huge thank you to the Imagine team and to Kaizen (@EverettKeithcart) for their gorgeous projection work and for making it all happen.
Thank you as well to all of you who all read this far. I feel you and appreciate you. ❤️
