Well, as Instagram has kindly removed my previous post twice due to breaking terms of service 🤯 Apparently, standing outside a musician’s old house is considered hate speech now? 👎🏼
Anyways, here we have it! The main reason we flew across the sea is the famous Fantoft Stave Church! Honestly, whether you like religion or not, this building is truly breathtaking! For those who aren’t aware, On 6 June 1992, the church was destroyed by arson, the first in a string of church burnings by members of the early Norwegian black metal scene.
Truly an incredible piece of music history & an impressive building to behold. 🔥⛪️

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. #MemoryMonday 🌚
This time last month, we were in Bergen, Norway visiting all the locations made famous by the Norwegian Black Metal scene. Here’s a side-by-side photo of the concrete crucifix that has stood the test of time. Originally, built-in 1833, this crucifix hasn’t moved in over 139 years and even stood threw the arson attack in 1992. 🔥⛪️
Which locations of music history would you like to visit?
So, have you ever wondered what the famous Fantoft Stave Church looks like inside? 🤔
In the typical Scandinavian type of stave church, a foundation of boulders supports a horizontal wooden frame on which rest four corner posts, or staves. The staves are connected above by a rectangle of beams that complete a boxlike frame; all elements are joined by wooden pegs or by dovetailing. The outer wall timbers of stave churches are positioned vertically, in contrast to the more common “log” horizontal placement used in wooden structures. The surface area inside the church is surprisingly small, fitting a few small rows of pews and an altar.
Whether you are religious or not, there is no denying these buildings are impressive to see in person. 🌳 ⛪️
