As the church was destroyed in a fire in 1992, the building was rebuilt in the original style in the late 1990s. The wood in a more venerable stave church would not look so fresh!

An other stave church in Norway. Fantoft Stave Church is a stave church built around in 1150 originally from Fortun but has been moved to Bergen. The church was burned down by arson, also the members of the black metal scene heavily destroyed it (also trying to burn it down), later Varg Vikernes was found guilty of burning down this and 4 other churches. This church is on the cover photo of Burzum’s EP called Aske. We really wanted to go inside but it was closed down during that time of the year we were there. Photo done by me.
