Irelia has no hard and fast opinion of the Vastaya, even as many of the freedom fighters have a hard and fast opinion of her, or rather, the Council such that she is sworn to protect.
Aware that she is that the Vastayan country behind the shield of the Navori Mountains is shrinking, she feels that it is not within her power (or even within her knowledge) to make any decision concerning the plight, an ambivalence made antipathy by her fellow Elders for concerns about Vastaya are seated somewhere between grass and the dirt as far as priorities are concerned.
Really, she wonders, what is there to be done?
The Vastaya have made it clear time and again that negotiations are off the table, secluded already before conflict arose such that neither Irelia nor her Guard can even be sure that Vastaya participated in the Noxian war let alone opened themselves to the prospect before the first man fell. The current incumbent Elders (of which Irelia hesitantly sides with) have decided that the “vastayan lands” north of Navori are their own autonomous region and therefore, with heavy hands, not their problem.
As of late, skirmishes with Vastayans have been few and far in-between but nevertheless becoming more frequent. Irelia knows enough not to see them as a hivemind conglomerate and as such tries to deal with any conflict on a case by case basis.
What bothers her more than the single soldier gibbed to smithereens by a feathered onslaught is intent. What do they want? Supremacy? Ionians, culled so that their forests, as they say, can thrive again?
If war is what’s in their palate, Irelia can only warn them not to incite those whose memory still burns behind their eyes.
