Young fighters of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, El Salvador, 1979 🇸🇻
Salvadoran Communist leader Farabundo Martí was executed by firing squad on Feb. 1, 1932 following his capture in the course of the suppression of a peasant uprising in which tens of thousands of largely indigenous Pipil were also murdered
On this day in 1980, the Unified Revolutionary Direction (composed at the time of the Salvadorean Communist Party, the People's Revolutionary Army, and the "Farabundo Martí" Popular Liberation Forces) announced together with the National Resistance the creation of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (which would later also include the Revolutionary Party of Central American Workers). The goal was to coordinate the armed and mass struggle against the u.s-backed regime of colonel Gutiérrez Avendaño with the goal of establishing a "Revolutionary Democratic Government under the slogan of "United to struggle until the final victory; revolution or death, we will prevail!" The source for the image is the FMLN itself, and the info comes primarily from this communiqué issued by the DRU-PM on 10-10-1980
“The two groups that created the war still want to keep governing, and what’s more, they’re corrupt,” Bukele told reporters after voting in the capital. Supporters in bright blue t-shirts surrounded him, chanting, “Yes we can.” https://i2.wp.com/www.vennomax.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Elec.jpg?fit=980%2C551&ssl=1 https://is.gd/1bNWRS - Vennomax

By Nelson Renteria and Michael O'Boyle SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - A former left-wing guerrilla commander had a strong lead in El Salvador's presidential election on Sunday and heads into a run-off vote well positioned to defeat a conservative rival who wants to fight powerful street gangs with the army. Salvador Sanchez Ceren, who became a top leader of the now-ruling leftist Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) during El Salvador's civil war, had 49 percent support with votes in from more than 94 percent of polling booths. His right-wing opponent, former San Salvador Mayor Norman Quijano, had 38.9 percent of the vote. Sanchez Ceren had needed 50 percent to avoid a run-off on March 9 but with a 10-point lead over Quijano he was optimistic. Source: Reuters [view]
