THE PILE PRESENTS: X-Play - Tito Ortiz' Gallian Vacation | 6/25/08
It loves the taste of fanboy tears.
Games that were unexpectedly anti war.
It is rare for action titles in gaming to lean towards communicating an anti war message, especially in a mature and tonally consistent way. But these three examples were pioneers at the time for moving in that direction, disproving long standing notions that it would be impossible to do so.
Today these spectacular titles stand as some of the most well regarded anti war video games ever created.

~Master List~
I have been gone for a while, but I am on my way back. Everything below is for your convenience, more will be added and the ones I promised will be finished.
MGS5 poor usage of adult content and games that do it much better in comparison.
I do not like MGS5... that also includes 4, they may be mechanically slick and entertaining experiences but they are handicapped by some truly terrible usages of deliberately shocking material.
MGS5 often shows brutal, realistic and controversial imagery of torture, child soldiers, horrific violence and so on with real world visual parity.
But suddenly “Quiet” a soldier with parasites that force her to wear a bikini and frolic in water to survive makes butt to camera contact after just being forcibly drowned... Female empowerment righttttttt? Pukes.
LOOK, I know a lot of people like this crap...
But if ya gonna put all this shocking imagery and the real life fuckin Guantanamo Bay in your bullshit, late stage ubisoft open world inspired action stealth game. You better make sure you are at least tasteful, careful and considered with those inclusions and avoid anything that might you know?!... Irreversibly damage the tone you are trying to establish or just waste the potential of the settings and contexts in general?!
A lot of Japanese and especially US pop media does a TERRIBLE job in regards to tackling really heavy stuff like this and it continues to bug me, to the average consumer just playing this enjoying the game and seeing this stuff, it is just gonna to be an after thought to them because of all the stupid shit going on in the background distracting them. And that... is simply a TRAGIC mis usage of the content, turning gritty subject matter into a bloody distraction...
Many call of duty games proceeding MW1 are also guilty of this mis usage.
Games you should play that treat their adult themes and real world contexts with respect and dignity. They are so few and far between, but they are amazing when they do show up from time to time.
SPEC OPS THE LINE.
Set during the aftermath of a devastating sandstorm hitting Dubai. You play as a American delta force operative named Captain Walker, in a mission to seek out and rescue survivors of the disaster. Including Walker’s close friend John Konrad who was responsible for ensuring the success of the initial evacuation of the city which instead ended in complete failure. The game is more than that though, as things progress you slowly start to realise that things are not quite what they seem at first... But that is something I will not spoil.
FARCRY 2.
You play as a mercenary in a unnamed African country currently in the mist of a destructive civil war, fought between various faction all gunning for total control. Their arms are supplied by the Jackal, an illusive gun runner you have been tasked with eliminating, quickly you will soon discover that you are just as responsible for the cycle of violence as he is as you aid both sides in pursuing him.
Please play these games, they do not get enough attention as they should do.
FarCry 2 way ahead of its time flawed masterpiece.
