I've learned not to lie to people, who know me better than my words. And I've believed I've learned to filter out the voices in my head; but I'm still not sure. I've learned that failure's not an option; it's frowned upon and rude. 🎶 #Golden #FarewellFighter #Lyrics #staypositive
Farewell Fighter is so damn catchy. All the props to Derek for showing them to me just in time for this super random reunion show. #farewellfighter (at Club Moscow)
Would it be weird?
I had a BBQ at my house the other day - it was good people, good food, and the weather held out for rainy season. Having an outdoor shindig in August in the Philippines is risky at best, and while making last minute preparations (the day of, of course!), I set about making a playlist. I figured, my house, my rules - right? So I went about throwing all the old favorites I had, because in my mind everyone plays their...shit I don't even know what the cool kids listen to! My taste is way out of left-field, and I knew I was putting on some head scratchers.
I hoped the food and solid supply of beer would get people dancing instead of glancing at the sounds coming from the speakers. There was a moment though, where some Take Off Your Pants and Jacket era Blink-182 came on, and the most gangster Swedish guy there raised his eyebrows in the universal sign for 'What the fuck is this?' and I felt that pit drop in my stomach, and relinquished DJ status. On came Tyga and 2-Chainz...s? (is it a z or s?) and I grabbed 2-beerz and mindlessly bobbed my head.
I guess this post is in defense of my taste in music, because someone has to fight the good fight for punk music. If you know me, you know I actually love hip-hop, but below is an example of one of my new favorites in this genre much maligned by my most gangster* of friends.
Farewell Fighter are the reason for this long-winded, defensive post. I had to type up 76 pages for work whilzt running on 4 hours of sleep, and I listened to this album maybe five times in a row. I was part delirious from staring at a word document for 7 hours straight, but take nothing away from Nashville's pop-punk quartet. What makes these guys interesting is all the components are there - acrobatic vocals in the upper range, whiny lyrics about getting older and wasted days, but the x-factor is the instrumentation and song structure that deviates from the formulaic.
*I use the term gangster so lightly it barely applies - but I give my Scandinavian homie street cred.
