Tonight was the last ever Oilers game at Rexall Place. Sunday I attended my Last ever hockey game there. That arena and hockey have been a huge part of my life for as long as i can remember. (My uncles got me into everything at a young age) My first ever Oilers game i went with my Grandpa, It was amazing. i couldn’t be older than ten. So many childhood memories happened at that building whether I was there or not. I went to Rodeos there every year for as long as i could remember. When we became season seat holders for the junior team my Grandpa and i never missed a game. middle of January we’d be two of the under 1000 people in that building dressed up in layers watching hockey. We made many friends in that building. He knew everyone, He even knew a few scouts. I’d get free media books from them, one time I even got a full season media guidebook from one. All of the workers knew him. He knew exactly which concession stand to go to get my unusual order. My sister and I knew where this secret bathroom was in the club. It was always clean and full of random bathroom stock. This is the arena I got escorted out of for trying to sell 50/50 tickets whilst being under age (Long story short the guy who hired me thought i was older.) This is the Arena i saw Hunter Hayes, Taylor Swift, 5sos and many more in. We knew which door to get in early from. We were allowed to sit wherever we wanted to on slow nights. I saw World Junior u20 hockey played here twice! once with my grandpa we saw Team Sweden vs. Team Canada, i cried. My grandma surprised me with tickets they were the only ones she could afford. And the second time we were looking at the HHOF thing they brought with thme becuase it was free and she didn’t want me to miss out. Some guy gave us tickets and we went. it was amazing. I’ll never forget the sea of red that filled the arena. I’d met countless hockey players here. I met Olympic Gold Medalist Shannon Szabados and got to hold her medal. I saw the 2012 Oil Kings win The Ed Chenowyth cup. The arena was electric. Game 7 of the Championship finals The Oil Kings were up but there was still such a nervous energy in the arena. That last minute play was kept in their zone. The final thirty seconds the arena erupted. Goosebumps everywhere. Lots of hugs and high fives. it was great. it’s still one of the best things I’ve ever experienced. So many great memories. Can’t wait to start some new ones at the new arena.
