Me and farfarhawaii's head canon after the Q&A's: Because of the nightmares, Elliot is somewhat of an insomniac. As a result he tends to fall asleep and doze off in class, and has to catch up when he's doing homework later. He has to learn it all on his own, because Leo isn't good at explaining the lessons.
